GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Fauci suggest caution and made those remarks two months ago. A lifetime in COVID world.

Your condescending and disparaging comment regarding pediatricians doesn’t deserve a response.

Fauci is more politician than doctor these days. They have to control the narrative. It’s the world we live in. Back during the Spanish Flu, it was completely censored out of national papers.

Schools are going to be like restaurants and theme parks. People not directly involved and a small minority are going to yell “OPEN, OPEN”, and then they open and find out that people making actual choices about their and their children’s health aren’t going to actually come. Restaurants in our city are closing at record speeds because no one actually wants to go, theme parks including Disney are selling same day tickets and removing AP restrictions because people are still cancelling.

The minute the required email is sent to parents that say “a child in your class has tested positive” or the minute the mom group text messages start flying “did you hear Heather’s dad is in the ICU”, the schools will empty except those lone holdouts that send their kids to measles parties or have zero other alternatives.
The precautions we take with our children are sometimes a little much and we‘ve become a little too risk adverse with a lot of other kid risks, I just don’t see myself or my other school moms saying oh but over here where people are dying I’m going to roll the dice.

JMO...
There are many pediatricians that are wonderful clinicians.

The best ones are quick to realize when it's time to "hand off" to an expert. Suspect serious blood disease? Epilepsy? They defer to the experts in those fields.

And I see a pandemic as a situation where expert epidemiological advice should be primary.

Children are precious. Whatever advice is followed needs to come from the most knowledgeable folks available.

Any decent general practice pediatrician would not take offense at the suggestion that they do not know as much in the field of epidemiology and infectious diseases as one who actually trains and has done the work for decades...no more than they would at the idea that they aren't as expert in brain surgery.

Fauci is the least political of all the sources of information we have. No expert in the field will say that children don't spread the disease nor are they immune to it. The recent outbreaks in summer camps is proof of it.

I’m sure the politicians and pundits are more knowledgeable than pediatricians, CDC and the health department?
I'm gong to say this again... NYC...last spring..... children. Covid-19. Severe illness, quick spread.Lingering severe neurological damage. This isn't politics,or even the CDC. I'm going to guess that the pediatricians trying to save these children would disagree with your opinion.

Fauci is absolutely putting his job at risk by speaking out. He's worked in the field for decades, through several administrations and has the utmost respect among his peers. I just don't buy into the deep state theories of wanting to control us. If he was alone in his opinions, I would be suspect, but once you leave the political world, he's not.

If you’re low income, you have no choice but to send your kid to school. I remember going to school with a lot of sick kids because their parents couldn’t afford to stay at home.

Low income doesn't mean your job is in person right now.

And I'm sure that a disser is more knowledgeable than all of the above. But you'll forgive me if I don't rely on the flawed spin put out by a disser as to what they said and go read and watch what they said for myself.

They didn't say children aren't spreaders. They in fact said children spread it less and the younger they are the less likely they are to get it and spread it. That's quite a different thing than children aren't spreaders as you claimed. My eyes have observed and saw what they said and confirmed that they were right. My eyes have seen that children in fact can and do get it and spread it, albeit at lower rates.

As for going back to school, the kids have so far been out of school for most of the duration. We don't have much of any data on their rate of spread while in school. But if Covid is like most anything else, they'll be spreading it more if they're packed in school like sardines than they are now. How much more? Can't say for sure because I don't know. But here is the real rub. They don't even have to spread covid for things to go very south in a hurry. What if they just spread one of the myriad things they normally spread like wildfire at school before we get covid under control and health care resources are already spread thin?

So you're not a mathematician?

Fauci has worked under six different administrations.

Yes and no- my sister teaches in a school where every single student is below the poverty line and they’ve spent the last 4 months delivering food door to door. Many of these families (not all) already didn’t send their kids consistently to school, often had multi-generational families in the home, had work shifts that didnt align with the school day, and have been the hardest hit by unemployment during the closures. When given the alternatives for next year the majority are not sending kids to school. One school does not a thread make, but in her community this is what is currently happening.

The hardest hit are essential workers at all income brackets because there really are very few alternatives if you need care.

But that’s why I said in my message that the people left would be those with zero alternative, which is just yet another gross way this country is okay exposing those with the fewest resources to the greatest risks.

I have all the empathy in the world for those who need their kids in school to work. But the solution is not to open schools and risk spreading a disease we don't even know the long term effects of. If that happens and we have school outbreaks, they'll close anyway and we'll be back to square one.

There are things the government can do. Hardship stipends- rather than throwing a few thousand out to those who didn't need it, it should be directed to those who do. My kids all got that $1200 stipend. They're teachers, they didn't lose a dime in income. My income was not affected in the least and I got it. The $600 a month enhanced unemployment that wasn't based on any need at all was ridiculous. My daughter teaches part time as a sub. That 600 a week was many times over what she earns from teaching. Direct funds to people that have needs. Nutrition programs and well checks could be created. All of it can be done. I don't want to hear the government can't afford it. They afford what they want to afford.

Agree completely. And yes, we have the money, but the $600 isn't going to be extended. I'm hearing talk of a capital gains tax break. That should be pretty helpful. Kidding.

Good grief. Capital gains?? Could they be more out of touch?
