Just genuinely curious...how long can you and your family go with no income? Many ppl. have already gone a period of time with no/lessen income etc. and I keep seeing all these posts acting like we should just shut down until we "eliminate the spread," however in the meantime there are so many families/ppl already struggling and there are deaths happening as a result of the shut down...not to mention the fact that there will never be a time where we're able to ELIMINATE the spread...until/unless there's a vaccine.

When does the 2400 a month end? Nobody should be going with no income.

Very few are saying to go shut down again. Most are thinking things are moving to open things to quickly. I live in Canada and many here shake our heads at how Florida and Texas are handling this. IMO the way it should be handled is open small businesses and restaurant patios first. Then if cases stay low start opening more things. I look at what we have done here and can't figure out why Florida couldn't do the same. A week ago Ontario went into phase 2. Retail is open, malls are opening and restaurants are only allowed to open patios. If cases stay low like they have then the next step is theme parks and more capacity for businesses. Our opening has been based on medical and science.

First of all, nobody is advocating stay at home until eliminating the virus entirely. Nobody. What we said was we were opening too soon and too quickly in several states. And WE were right. WE told you so.
Secondly, had we done nothing, the economy would be in even worse shape. Nor did it have to be this bad. Thirdly, the amount of deaths happening as a result of being shut down are not even close to the number happening because of Covid let alone how many more would be happening if we hadn't. I'm not going to sacrifice 500 to save 5. Especially if the 5 had a chance to save themselves.

First of all, nobody is advocating stay at home until eliminating the virus entirely. Nobody. What we said was we were opening too soon and too quickly in several states. And WE were right. WE told you so.
Secondly, had we done nothing, the economy would be in even worse shape. Nor did it have to be this bad. I feel bad for the people who still haven’t received the unemployment benefits they are entitled to. I have to admit, as the research goes on and reports come out that the antibodies last a few months at best, I am really losing faith that there will ever be a vaccine that really works. I think our best hope lies in finding effective and fast acting treatments, that reduce the severity and prevent the long term damage. I am not advocating that we just open everything up and consequences be darned. I fully support wearing a mask and social distancing, and I think closing the bars was a good call. I would like to see the entire state close the beaches for July 4th weekend like south Florida has done. But I agree that we may have to come up with ways to live with this disease in our midst for years, and having everything shut down for the duration isn’t realistic.

I think it's pretty obvious prayers don't work and common sense should be what people exercise instead and that goes for the UK too.

That's a tough question. But all I know is that right now, at this very moment, there is a serious spike in Florida (and particularly Orange County). Three weeks ago, it was a slightly different story. But there is no way, in good conscience, that I could tell someone that I thought it was safe for them to visit WDW right now. I don't care if that means I lose money. For me, this feels like the right thing to do.

I definitely agree it's a very frustrating and conflicting situation. Unfortunately the degree of detriment on both sides (to proceed with opening, to go back, to shut down etc) for ppl. also seems to vary greatly depending on what each person/family is most at risk for etc. Definitely makes you grateful for the days this was not an issue.

Yup. The US will be in debt for many more years because of all the Corona virus bailouts. Americans have been laid off and lost their health insurance. The measures to stop the virus spread have resulted in the spread of poverty.

I don't think printing more money is going to help.

The US was showing very little intent on paying off its astronomical debt prior to covid. Yes covid has added to the debt, but many would say that money has been much more justified than what most of the historical debt had been spent on.

What are the latest thoughts on air conditioning in US?

I know you have had a few high profile outbreaks at meat factories over there, and we have now had one in the UK as well. This week Germany has also had one at a meat factory. Germany are very much focusing on the air conditioning systems being a contributing factor to their outbreak.

It kinda makes sense - what is different between meat processing and most other factories - more intense air cooling/handling systems to keep the meat cool.

Another side thought from this - currently a lot of the US states with renewed outbreaks are the southern warmer states. Is that possibly because it's now too warm out for many people so they're staying in more with aircon cranked up go full? Other cooler states people may be outside more still?

So, from this, restaurants come to mind. Its widely accepted that wdw/universal have good covid measures in place. However, IF air con is a factor and the main places people will be without masks in wdw etc will be restaurants. That circulating air and no masks looks like a significant risk to me.

Although of course they cant open wdw without restaurants....!

I live about 3 miles from MK, I don’t understand why anyone from out of the area would pay serious money to come here on vacation to Disney next month. Even if positives weren’t soaring through the roof, I don’t know why you’d want to come to Disney during this. Now with 9000 new cases today, and probably in the 20-30k a day range in a few weeks, why would you come here? It makes no sense. Disney will be here when hopefully we have a vaccine and it’s safe. Why pay thousands for a sub-par experience AND add the risk of a deadly disease on top of it? I don’t get it.

Because for some, Disney is a literal addiction. They are obsessed.

Our meat packing spikes here in the U.S. have been going on for a bit, not just the summer months. There have been some studies posted on the CDC site that discuss how being in a confined space, in close contact, causes an easy transmission. One study in a restaurant shows that the HVAC system (A/C) moved the airborne virus in a specific direction to the next table and that's how certain other patrons of the restaurant got it versus maybe another table that was in a different airflow direction from the infected person.

For meat packing plants in the U.S., this is a crowded job. Workers are shoulder to shoulder for long periods of time. For out spikes there, none of the plants took appropriate safety measures (masks, other PPE, hand sanitization,etc). It's all about the money.

I don't believe our southern states are spiking because of air conditioning. Many of them use A/C all year round. Honestly, it's a direct reflection of being open and not following the guidelines of keeping a safe distance apart and wearing a mask. Certainly even that is not 100% foolproof, but doing what they've been doing has just been a disaster.
