GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

To be clear, I agree with you about FL. I think anybody going is a taking a very high risk.

But the truth is, as @Mackenzie Click-Mickelson said, it can happen anywhere and anytime and you may not get advanced notice. Our grocery store just had an employee test positive yesterday. They shut down the grocery store and brought in a professional cleaning team and are re-opening today (original staff is all on mandatory quarantine while they wait to get tested and they’ve brought in workers from another store). Are people now not supposed to go grocery shopping either?

It’s a really slippery slope to say you’ll never go to those businesses. I think there is a way to mitigate your chances like not going to high risk businesses (theme parks, bars, etc), but I don’t think we’ll able to avoid all chances unless we literally don’t leave our houses.

But to clarify, has your position changed to no amusement parks, regardless of where they are? You’re absolutely allowed to change your opinion, so I don’t want to pull up the past if it has.
I know I won't be able to avoid all chances of getting it. I do the best I can to keep the risk low. I have gone out to eat a few times but I feel safe there as its only on patios. I have changed my mind on theme parks.

From watching vlogs from parks that are open now I don't feel safe going now. Watching Indiana Beach's reopening last week made me change my mind. There was no social distancing taking place and nobody wearing masks. They can put as many measures in place for social distancing but a lot still won't follow the rules. I heard a few post here from Disney today of people in queues pulling down their masks.

My family are all teachers. They go back next month and our schools plans are to open as though nothing were going on. Parents are demanding it. They'd apparently rather put their kids at risk as well as all the teachers so they can have their babysitters.

I at least am grateful that my grandson won't be going. He is being home schooled. This all is unneccesary and it's infuritating.

I'm so disappointed in hearing this. I just can't fathom the thought process, that it's not necessary to make some kind mitigation effort.

I am waiting to see what our school district will come up with. I do think they are looking at several different scenarios and are going to let the parents choose which they prefer. That plan isn't written in stone yet, so I will believe it when I see it.

I'm a grandma too and just have the one to worry about, but I'm not going to be happy if they don't try to do something to protect her and her teachers/staff. Our state and local government has been very good, for the most part, with trying to protect us, so I have hope they will do the right thing.

Isn't it selfishness ANY time you go to a theme park? I mean, don't you want to be entertained, and that's why you go? Or do people actually go to theme parks just to help the employees?
I go strictly to help the employees.

OK, not entirely. I also go to show my steadfast support for Mickey & Minnie, Dumbo, Ariel, Capt. Jack Sparrow, Tinkerbell, Brer Rabbit, Buzz Lightyear, Yoda, and the rest of the gang.

Not really. Under normal circumstances it is just a vacation. Putting your wants anove the health of entire populations is just selfish.

I don't know who is worse, the people traveling knowing they can harm others, the governor not locking down travel to protect the health of his constituents, or the companies putting profit above health. All will be culpable when the virus migrates from FL back to areas with low or no impact now.

Yes. For the little risk this disease poses to my kids, I want them back in class. Learning. No, I don’t need babysitters, I need educators.

Yes there is risk. Yes there is more risk to teachers and staff. Yes there is risk they bring it home. But for gods sake, dismissing parents desire for an education because you think we all just want babysitters is just as small minded as those who want to go back to 2019-normal.

Curious what you mean by the governor not locking down travel.

And I still argue that going to a theme park (during ANY time) is selfish itself. You're going to entertain yourself and/or your family, not to help others. That's the definition of selfish.

My daughter is on the safety group that was supposed to discuss and suggest mitigation. She resigned when they refused to wear masks at the meeting and they ended up not suggesting anything. Her principal did tell she'd be "allowed" to wear a mask in class.

I disagree. Selfish is when you choose to do something you know can cause harm to someone else and you don't care because what you want is more important. Going on vacation isn't in and of itself selfish.

The vlogs have actually made me feel a little better about the parks opening. From what I've seen, other than the 7DMT backup the other day, the crowds look very sparse and spread out. I have not seen someone in line yet, so you may have seen something different.

Its other parks I have seen it at. I watch Vlogs from all theme parks. I have seen many not follow social distancing.

The group closest to us with the person having a hand on the stroller appears to be one family and they are well spaced from the next group in front of them. It's up in front of them that appears problematic and I can't really tell how far they are from the next group. Some of these types of photos have an angle to the shot that seems to make the objects in the "back" of the photo seem squished together.

True, sense of depth in a photograph can be difficult to analyze. In the picture, as you mention, the first family with the stroller is definitely distanced. The other people in front, however, are not. If you look at where the people are standing in relation to other structures of the building, it’s reasonable to say there is not much spacing between them. Taking that first family, it appears the spacing between posts is about 4-5 feet. The other people in front of them seem to occupy the entire space between columns, which would leave little space among them.
