We did the Safari Celebration in Feb 2008, there were 10 of us in our GG-2 Grandparents and our family and my brother's family with kids ranging from 7-14, all boys, except for 1.
We loved the Safari, you got a much longer ride and our driver stopped along the way, so we could take pictures and it was much more interactive with the driver. It was also nice not to have to worry about waiting in line for the ride while we were at AK.
Dinner was very good. Even though there is an African theme to the food, none of it was too wierd for all of us to try, with the exception of my twin nephews who are the pickiest eaters you have ever seen-they only eat certain brands of mac & cheese and plain hot dogs. If you have been to Tusker House for lunch or dinner, the food is basically the same. They do have the traditional kids stuff on the buffet also, so don't worry about finding something for everyone.
We also loved the interation with the various musicians they had playing during dinner. There were some live animals brought in for the kids to check out and there were characters from Lion King for pictures and autographs.
By the time we were done, most people had left the park, so we were able to get some cool night-time shots of the Tree of Life.
Hopefully this answers your questions. Have a great time!
