Bump to see if anyone has any answers - we are thinking of doing this grand gathering also!! :wizard:

When we went on this back in Sept 06, the safari was the same track as the ride, but it was slower, more stops for pics and such. Our guide was very good at answering any and all questions. Dinner at Tusker House was great. It was closed to outsiders and the food is brought out to the tables, not buffet style. They had characters there for pictures and afterwards, you go outside and they had a few animals for close up viewing. I know there was an owl and a snake when we were there, not sure if that varies or has changed. Everyone in our party had a wonderful time!

We also did the fireworks cruise...that was a hoot! Worth the extra money for us. Also the Illuminations dinner at Epcot was great!!!

I think it is definately worth going on...it's a different experience than the ride open to everyone. Have fun!!

We went in December 2007 and had a blast. First you meet at the Flights of Wonder. When we checked-in and watched the Parade before entering the Flights of Wonder thearter. After the parade you enter and are put into your animal groups and meet your safari leader. They do a little show and give out the special pins. Then you follow your safari leader to the Safari ride. The ride definitely went a lot slower then earlier in the day. We stopped for pictures here and there. Our lady was really good and answered everyone's questions about the park. They did have to play the little ride part towards the end but it wasn't up very loud. For us it was a lot more peacful and we got some great pictures.

After that you follow your leader to Tusker House. They seat you and bring out salads, breads, and your drinks. After a little bit they open the buffet lines. There was a ton of different food. It kindof reminded us of Boma. Everything was very tasty and they had a kid section with mac-n-cheese and other kiddy stuff (which we adults ate as well). Then they do some music, bring animals, and a few characters. During the end of the music they bring out dessert - cookies, cakes, etc. It was all very yummy. Afterwards you walk out of the park and since it's closed there's no one around. We got some great pictures of the tree of life.

It was a lot of fun. We used DDP TS credits which it took 2 TS credits for this and was well worth it. We also did the Tony's Grand Breakfast Gathering which was really good esp for 1 table service credit.
