Grand Gathering Question

We just returned from our first family visit to Disney and the Fort.
We were there last week and the trip/weather/lines were great!!!!

I was a part of a "Grand Gathering" group (group of 8 or more people) that gave us some privliages.

8 months ago I requested loop 1300 in the back by the restrooms and away from the road noise (I have a pop up).
When we arrived we were put in 1600 loop right along the road.
Through agressive conversation and a site being available I did get an inside site in the 1600 loop (#1641-great site) so it all worked out.

My question-I relize you don't neccesarly get the site you request but I thought with a grand gather number you at least get the loop you request.

Any comments?

There are no guarantees with or without a grand gathering. They will accept your request, but based on what is available at the time your site is picked that is what you get. Grand gathering only means that your group will be together.

With a GG you are NOT guaranteed any loop and you're not all guaranteed to all be in the same loop either. We found that all out last 4th of July when we had a GG.
With a group gathering which we are doing for MDW, we will all be in the same loop. That is where you have 10 or more sites reserved.

Just so you know, Disney was not being capricious moving you to 1600 since loop 1300 had been converted to Premium by the time of your visit. If you booked Full (which 1300 would have been when you booked) the only loops they could put you in would have been 1600-1900, or 900-1100. Sure, they could have gone above-and-beyond and honored your request and put you in 1300 anyhow, but I think that is analogous to getting a free upgrade to First Class... it's nice when it happens, but you sure ought not count on it!
