Grand gathering help

In January of 2011, we will be at Disney to celebrate our daughter's 3rd birthday. We are also bringing along some family member's to share in our DVC fun. We looked briefly into the grand gathering offerings, but did not see much of anything that peeked our interest. Can anyone who has done a grand gathering shed some light on what Disney offers for grand gatherings and why you would want to do it?

The only reason we have done it is so that those of us staying in the same resort are in close proximity (but we have also done the same thing linking all our DVC reservations).

However we have done the EPCOT and Animal Kingdom dinners and they were pretty good (don't know if they still offer them).

We've done the Wishes cruise twice but won't do it again. The first time we had a beautiful dessert and coffee reception beforehand. The second time it was prepackaged, how can I put this nicely, stuff.
