Grand Floridian

IMHO, there are no bad views at GF even in their lowest room category (garden view). The only difference is you will have a patio instead of a balcony. If you really don't want the first floor, simply go to the front desk when you arrive and see if you can switch floors. With first floor, lagoon, I think you will either be in Boca Chica or Big Pine Key. Both great buildings.

You requested first floor! But you're going to request a change? When they gave you exactly what you asked for?!

This is why they're going to kill off requests entirely eventually!

No, the OP says that the only request was NOT first floor.

Only request was not first floor.
I am not upset at all, just trying to ponder if having a room ready is more important to us than higher floor.
I was looking for thoughts on first floor rooms.

I talked to the front desk. We can get 4th floor from in Boca Chica but it is not ready yet.
I just think a higher floor with lagoon view would be nice.

I went with higher floor but I thought about keeping first floor to just have our room now.
I hope I made a good choice.
So far, everyone has been very pleasant.
We are getting ready to eat breakfast at 1900 PF.

I'm not a first floor girl either and would definitely prefer to wait for a higher floor :). I hope you have a FABULOUS stay, we LOVE the GF!!!

We have lagoon view booked and only requested no first floor.
We got first floor.
How bad is the view from the first floor?
It is early, so I am hoping to request a change.
Thoughts?
We had first floor in BPK and it was quite beautiful = we overlooked the Poly Bungalows -- it was also VERY quiet -- keep in mind I'm a boater so the sounds of the Seven Seas Lagoon waking up are not disturbing to me at all!

I'm trying to be really brave about our upcoming trip to the Poly CL in Jan. I requested third floor and know that is only a request but I am really nervous about getting a ground floor. I HATE snakes and have it stuck in my mind that a snake is going to get into my room on a ground floor! I know it wont happen (or at least is about as likely as me winning the lottery) but it's in my head and it just plays around in there. I'm a farm girl for gosh sakes but really hoping to stay far away from the ground floor rooms:)

I wouldn't worry too much. IF you do end up with a ground floor and you truly aren't happy, go to the front desk and ask to be moved. Unless the resort is at full capacity and I can't imagine it will be in January, you should be able to move - you may have to wait for the room to be ready but again, I doubt you'd have a problem being moved.

That's the danger of saying "no first floor". All they see is "first floor". Should have been worded "upper floor" or "higher floor".

I wonder if they are that booked up that they couldn't grant her only one request?

Can't read before my 5th coffee, sorry. Seen so many ridiculous complaints about requests lately and can't brain early in the day.

Good point - maybe that's why I ended up looking @ the parking lot @ the Poly one year because my request was 'no parking lot view." :cool1:

OP posted that she/he's been moved to an upper floor @ his/her request - just has to wait as the room's not available for an early am check in.

I don't usually mind first floor rooms, we've had first floor rooms at the Polynesian and Contemporary (before they took away some of the garden wing) and we loved it both times, we've also had upper floor rooms and been just as happy with those! As for views if you booked lagoon whether you were on the first floor or higher floor I still think the view would be nice. Glad you got your room changed to an upper floor since that's what you originally wanted and hopefully you'll love your view/location and have a fantastic trip!

How is your room?! We stayed in a lagoon view, Boca Chica, 4th floor room last year and could see the fireworks if we looked to the left on our balcony. It was awesome!

I know the snake thing is the problem, but I wanted to share my 1st floor experience at the Poly with you. We also had requested an upper floor with a balcony thinking it would be a nice view, but upon arrival we were given a first floor. Oh well. Oh my goodness!!! Best issue ever! WE stayed in Tokelau, which is now DVC< but that patio was awesome. The grounds at teh Poly are so plush that even when there are people on the sidewalks, you are sheltered from them. That patio was so much more spacious than a balcony and added a lot more room for us. If you can somehow get past the snake problem, and I totally get that!!!!, and end up with a patio, you may find it the best non granted request ever!

Couldn't agree more. We had first floor at the Poly in Fiji, facing the marina. The patio was awesome. We had requested 3rd floor but were very happy with the patio.

We had a snake in our ground floor room at BC. He was in the bathroom. Put a wastebasket over him and called maintenance. They took forever to come! Guy said it was a harmless snake, but still. After that, my one son always requests 'no ground floor!'
