Grand Floridian, Too "Hoighty-Toighty"?

You'll fit in!

Our family doesn't care for the GF but that's simply because we don't like the theme - no other reason.

I was also concerned that it seemed more 'grown up' and that the kids might not like it, but they loved it in November and we're staying there again this November. :) It's a beautiful hotel and the atmosphere felt warm and inviting.

I am seriously looking at booking the GF, my first choice would have been Poly, but not with construction...I'm not sure how I feel about the Contemp. but I'm seriously wondering if the GF is a bit to "much" for my family?

To us it's "grand luxury" and I'm afraid we won't "fit in"... :worried:

As my hubby always says, "Our money spends like every one else's." I have stayed at GF once and didn't like it at all though. Love the lobby and listening to the music...It is just not my "style". I have always loved staying at the Polynesian or Contemporary much more.

They have a lot of weddings there, so you will often see dressed up people in the lobby, and you will also see dressed up people who are there for dinner at Victoria and Albert's or Narcoossee's. Sometimes I think people see those dressed up people and think it is stuffy there. Those people were probably in shorts and T-shirts sweating at a park a couple of hours earlier!

Along with those dressed up people you will see people throughout the GF lobby that are wearing T-shirts and shorts and might be on the dirty or sweaty side from being in the parks all day (those people might have been us). The CMs will treat you great whether you are in the dressed up category or the T-shirt category. We have never been treated like we were out of place there even at our messiest. We've stayed there a couple of times and really enjoyed it. We never felt like it was stuffy. DD (now 8) has always loved it there. I love being in the lobby in the evenings when the piano player or band is playing and there are lots of little princesses dancing to the music waiting for their table at 1900 Park Fare. I can recall walking through the lobby from the bus to get to our room in one of the outbuildings after a day at the parks one evening when DD was 6, and the band started playing I Wanna Be Like You from Jungle Book and DD stopped in her tracks and broke out into this wild dance right in the middle of the lobby for the whole song. No one looked down on us. I saw a couple of CMs actually stop and watch her a minute and they were smiling.

I will be honest when I was there I felt out of place.... now I am just a normal person... :) from the Midwest - we decided we will never stay there... We do love to go over there for a meal - great food & Awesome Resturants - We LOVED Beach Club however.

I feel comfortable anywhere in WDW! I believe that the CM's go above and beyond to make you feel wonderful at all the resorts at any level. If the look of the theme at the GF appeals to you then you will love staying there. It is a beautiful, conveniently located resort with lots of amenities.

That said, everyone is different with regard to what they want from a resort and what sort of atmosphere resonates with them. Some love the GF, others find it 'stuffy' but not meaning that in a bad way, but in a 'this elegant style isn't an atmosphere that i feel at home in'. Some people aren't comfortable in sweats while in an elegant lobby, others are fine with that. Nothing wrong with either point of view. Some people just like a tropical atmosphere like the Poly, a modern atmosphere like the CR or a woodsy atmosphere like at the WL.

Basically, stay where you think that you will be most comfortable, but know that everyone can fit in just fine at any WDW resort.

I would think it would only be "Hoighty Toighty" if you let it make you feel that way. :confused3

My parents saved for two years so that we could stay here back when my sister and I were in college. It was a magnificent experience. Yes, we dressed nicer than we normally do, but there were PLENTY of guests in T-shirts and Mickey ears. And everyone was made to feel 100% welcome. CM's will put on brilliant smiles and say good morning no matter how you're dressed. So don't worry about that!

In the past I've felt that the place just would be lost on young children, but they've added a lot over the years. Really good character meals, plus the new splash zone, add to the kid appeal.

I think anyone who spells "hoytey toytey" in "oigh form" is waaaayyy above me.;)

GF is a nice place. I relaxed in the lobby and nobody blinked an eye while I clipped my toenails. Until one piece flew into someone's mint julep. But I was very polite and bought her another drink. She gave the first one to me.;)

^^^^

please tell me you did this while wearing your best white too tight tank top and daisy dukes. and sippin' your "tea" with your pinky in the air. :rotfl2:

OH.MY.LAAAAAWWWWWWDDD!!!! :rotfl2:

Stayed there last summer and it was very nice. It does have more upscale decor compared to large Disney icons like the values. I had no issues and I have stayed at all Disney levels. They do have a fun children's splash area so it is child friendly

Well it is shockingly overpriced. But luxury, it's not. It's priced for the theme, the monorail and the proximity to MK.

I always felt intimidated going by the GF on the monorail, but after a couple trips where we ate there and arrived early enough to look around, I'm totally in love with it. It's so light and bright and airy. It feels like sunshine.

Anyone stay in GF villas? Trying to plan our first visit with a two year old and four year old??
