Grand Floridian the next DVC.....

I hope it's true. I've always said that I'll finally buy into DVC if it's at the GF!!!

We would consider adding on there... unless it's $150/point. With BLT set at $140./point, that may be the case if GFV happens.

Started planning (dreaming) on our first vacation there so hope the rumors turn out to be correct.

When do you think they could start work on it and how long before Disney starts selling the points?

As for price, well if you compare the cheapest room at the Contemporary for $337.50 against the cheapest at the Grand Floridian for $495, then $150 per point seems quite cheap when compared to Bay Lake Towers at $140 a point.

Well-hope they don't just stuff it in that projected area. Parking could be a real issue---

And price per point. I go into "point shock" when I see these prices. Of course, I paid $52 per point

I think there's provision for a 125 space parking lot next to the new proposed building and then a smaller 111 space parking lot near to the Wedding Pavilion.

I think there are enough DVC's they are over saturating the resort with rooms they... if they want to add to the DVC they should look to other states to capitalize on tourism in those places

DVC is guaranteed clientele that feeds the parks with hungry stomachs and cash for gift shops...and they often drink

now...taking that into consideration - do you want to rethink your position?

FYI - i know that this is far from confirmed...but i recall stating about 50 times that DVC at the Grand and polynesian was a certainty after they sold off the land to the four seasons project...

to quote ace ventura "MAN, I'M TIRED OF ALWAYS BEING RIGHT!"

We would DEFINITELY add on if they open at GF! FINGERED CROSSED!

It's a no brainer as is the Poly eventually. I've never understood the allure of the GF though. what a staid, undisney and boring location. Aside from V&A's I just don't get it.:confused3

I worked there (on a temporary assignment) and ...no joke...it had the worst/ most incompetent staff at WDW.

so the allure is a purely fabricated allusion. The real "draw" is that they paint it up as "luxury" and those that fancy themselves as important enough or wealthy enough to pay for it buy it. That's it - plain and simple.

But i agree that a DVC at every "deluxe" (and that term is pretty bogus as well) is a certainty. It's just too good of an economic model not for them to exploit. And they have to make up from the loss of Hannah Montana and for Lindsay Lohan not being able to shoot "Herbie: Fully Loaded 2" due to community service requirements.

And before anybody has the "well...maybe they're just adding on to the grand" - lets just quelch that one.
There is absolutely no need for new rack rate rooms at any disney location with the notable exception of the value suites - pop century.
The last thing on earth that they need with all the economic disasters and uncertainty is more 500 overpriced rooms for the general public.

Now vacation club...particulary because there will be nothing to sell in florida sooner or later makes perfect sense.

so let it be written...so let it be done.

no i dont want to rething my position... i realize it guarantees guests revisiting but there are so many other things needed in the parks to eat up the crowds that they currently have and to make some of the parks worth while to visit for more than just 3-4 hours that adding more hotel rooms is not a smart move

I'm actually surprised bc I always thought they'd put a DVC at the Poly before the GF just bc the theming is better for a DVC at the Poly then the GF

I'm all for DVC (please don't flame me) but I just wish they wouldn't add any more DVC units to the deluxe hotels it increases guest numbers, noise levels, etc., etc., although if they did this like at BLT, i.e. a totally separate environment, then it could work well.

I'm due to stay at the Polynesian later this year, if construction starts this year (and of course we don't know if it is going to be DVC) I might reconsider, I really don't want to stay near a construction site.

as i see it...height is the issue.

The can get away with building a 4 or 5 or 6 story tower next to the grand floridian because it can blend fairly well with the main lodge next to it...that will require a smaller footprint for a DVC unit because it can be built vertically.

The polynesian is only two story buildings...the longhouse design wouldn't look right with a tower next to it. So they would need to build lower with a more spreadout design...such as they did at animal kingdom the last few years.
That makes the problem of space much worse at the poly...as the TTC and the magic kingdom parking support facilities are right there...with not alot of room on the existing grounds.

I see a unit at the poly sooner than later...but it seems as though the grand floridian idea is more shovel ready right now.

wasn't there also a rumor with Poly that they were going to convert some long houses to DVC?

the poly only has about 800 rooms and has one of the highest occupancy rates at WDW...
...if they were to take only a couple of units offline for DVC it wouldn't be enough space to create a significant number of units to sell.

and if they take too many...they would be eating into a good traditional hotel revenue operation.

so i would say it would be unlikely to convert polynesian rooms to timeshares
