Grand Floridian Tea

MyTea.jpg

DW and I love to go for afternoon tea at GF. My tea selection was the Nobu Fruit Tea: this tea was sweet even without sugar and it was wonderfully aromatic; the acidity was balanced smoothly without loosing the wonderful tanic qualities of great tea. The food selection I made was the Prince Edward's Tea: this plate contains pates and terrines, marinated berries, Stilton Blue Cheese, toasted English Walnuts, scones with double cream and a glass of Port wine to finish (I had sparkling apple juice since I do not drink).

I suggest going........it is a wonderful time. Many on the DIS may say it is too "foo-foo" for men, but I think (being a man) they would love it!!!!

Granted it's been a while since I've had it, but I love the GF Tea!
I had the Buckingham Palace (assorted tea sandwiches, fruit tart, yummy scones, strawberies and cream) with the Darjeeling tea. It was terrific.

The Sally Lunn bread is also very good.

Have fun!

I have never been, but I do have a reservation on Sept 25th at 2:00 with my daughter. Its her 14th birthday an I think she would enjoy it.

I usually order the Buckingham Palace with the Grand Floridian's own blend of tea.

Last year, though, I really just wanted the scones and tea so I ordered ala carte and it was just perfect.

I get the Sally Lunn tea (I'm doing it again this afternoon, I was invited by another member of the DIS). :) I have always gotten the Harney Cinnamon and Spice tea, but I didn't see it on the All Ears menu. I do get it at home now by the pound, but it is always nice to have there too. :)

When we were there last, they had stopped serving Harney teas. Too bad since, we too, always had the Cinnamon Spice tea.

They have a different brand now (no doubt because the tea company they are now featuring was willing to pay for the privilege!). We thought the teas were wierd -- many of them were infused fruit affairs done in a French press. That is something, I guess, but certainly not tea.

We like good, strong, solid black teas. Fortunately, they still have a few, but we miss the Harney teas.

...A : a shrub (Camellia sinensis of the family Theaceae, the tea family) cultivated especially in China, Japan, and the East Indies B : the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of the tea plant prepared and cured for the market, classed according to method of manufacture into one set of types, and graded according to leaf size into another

Blends are teas too......just because teas are blended with fruits and/or flowers does not make it any less of a tea. If you have a blend of fruits and/or flowers and no tea it is referred to as being "herbal". Herbals are considered to be teas in every tea shop and tea brokers around the world. As for straight-up unblended tea, it is wonderful in all its forms: oolong, green or black. The different varieties of those three are then defined by the fermenting/drying they go through and the size of the leaf. Teas are as complex as wine and can be flighted with a meal just like wine. Like wine, not all varieties are liked by all people......try many types of tea and find what is right for you. Tea is a wonderful experience, but it takes time and experimentation to find what suits each individual's taste.

Drink up and and enjoy tea your way!!! :surfweb:

That is exactly what DH and I ordered (yes, he really enjoyed it!), with the addition of the cheese plate (highly recommend it). I was not hungry for dinner that night, plenty of food at tea.

Agreed! We reserved tea for 2:00 (when they open) and had to cancel our ADR for dinner that night. It was plenty of food. And we didn't even have the cheese plate!

I actually had the Harney Cinnamon Spice tea today. They have stopped serving Harney overall (I do buy it by the pound from the company, so it isn't like I never have it - I do every day!) But they said that there is a lot of requests for the Cinnamon Spice, so she had it in back. So definitely ask!

What did you order? Going there in August and wondering what I should order.
Well you will probably get a collection of individuals who in essence will cover everything on the menu. I will just say the Afternoon Tea is a great way to spend a little time to relax. For us it is a great time as parents to watch our two daughters to feel grown up at 4 and 6. The smiles in their eyes as they look at you while drinking their chocolate milk in the tea cup makes it a memorable time.

I would recommend being very honest with yourself as you read through the menu which has dropped some offerings...

If it sounds like you won't enjoy it I would say consider another option and do not feel compelled to select an entree. Selecting a dessert, appetizer or starter is just fine and may actually be exactly what you want.

nbodyhome -- Thanks for the tip! We'll certainly ask for the Cinnamon Spice next time we're there. Glad to know I'm not the only one who misses the Harney and Sons teas.

I'm afraid a tea named Eros simply doesn't do it for me. As I said, I like good black teas and green teas, not fruity/floral French press concoctions that are the equivalent of a hot Hawaiian punch with a name suggesting eroticism. They may be teas -- just not tea to me!

You are not alone. I am EXTREMELY conservative when it comes to tea. I only want the standard type black tea (or orange pekoe or Oolong). Just standard tea. Don't put anything tooty fruity or herbal in my tea.

FYI........orange pekoe is not a type of tea, it is a size grade. Orange Pekoe is basically made up of fragments of tea leaves left after leaves of measurable size are removed. Generally orange pekoe is made up of black tea.

Oolong is a typical Chinese variety of tea that falls in between green and black tea in the fermenting (drying) process. It is called qingcha, which means blue-green in translation.
