We were considering having afternoon tea as a family, but then I read someone's dining review and they commented that the children that were there were all quiet. My 2 yo is not a terror and we keep her in check, however...she is 2. She gets excited, and she doesn't always remember to use her quite voice. I think she would enjoy it, she has a little tea set she likes to play with at home, but is this a place where if she got excited and started singing a song we would be frowned upon?

I've only been once, last year, and it was very quiet and elegant. I don't recall seeing any other really little ones there. However -- it IS Disney, and they do even have a special children's menu, Mrs. Pott's tea, so they do expect young guests. As long as she can sit fairly still for the meal (there are a lot of fragile china cups and plates), I don't know that anyone would object to a cute little girl being so excited that she sings a bit...

That said, I don't think I'd take my 3 year old DGD there, because she is a whirling dervish and probably wouldn't enjoy herself. When we were dining at the Blue Bayou (one of the nicer TS restaurants at DL), she abruptly, without warning, decided to give us a recap of what she sounded like on the teacups earlier that evening..."Grandma, it was like this -- eeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" :scared1: Lots of people laughed, but I suspect others were a bit shaken that their dinner had an unexpected soundtrack. We quickly reminded her that she had to use her indoor princess voice in a restaurant!

The Garden View Lounge is very small, very elegant, and very quiet. It's rare to see kids that age in there. Unless she's able to sit quietly for the duration of the tea and use that inside voice, I probably wouldn't do it....and I'm not sure it'd be much fun for her. There are only about 25-30 tables, so if she started singing, you'd definitely have the attention of everyone in the place. :)

I'd probably put it off until she's a little older. In a few years, it'll be a wonderful family treat. My mom and I do the tea every time we visit.

I wouldn't take my grandaughters and they are 2 and 5. I wouldn't want to try and make them sit quiet and still for those couple of hours so as not to interrupt the others having tea.

If you would like to go, why not hire an in-room babysitter for the day/Tea.
We have used Kid's Night Out and they are fantastic.

Enjoy!

Depends, does she like dressing up? The atmosphere in the tea room is formal and it could be ok for a little one. If she likes to dress up and if she likes to have a tea party. Have her bring a little stuffed animal for tea to have tea with and entertain herself with.

Worse case scenario, have someone take her for a stroll around the lobby if she gets too fidgety part way through.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.:thumbsup2

Your daughter sounds like my daughter and I fully plan to take her to tea. Hiring in-room care at $80 is not an option and it is Disney so I am sure they've had children come to tea before. If not they wouldn't offer childrens tea.

I wouldn't, simply because it's very intimate, formal, and quiet in there. Lots of fine china, ruffly things, and the tables are pretty close together. In other words - too many opportunities for things to be broken just by doing normal 2 year old things =)

2 year olds have the attention span of a roach so she may get real tired, real fast. BUT, I think if you're happy to walk around the lobby with her if she gets restless, then I would try it. The worst that can happen would be that one of you has to take her out. It's right in the main lobby on the 1st floor.

(which also means that loud voices can be heard in the lobby as well)

We first took our girls there when one was 2 and the other was just under 1yo. Our oldest who was 2 at the time really enjoyed it and she enjoys playing tea time at home. Afternoon tea is designed for kids too...this is why they have kid offerings within the menu as another poster commented.

We did prep our oldest a little bit and told her this was big people tea time and we have to behave like Disney Princesses...she felt like a big person during our tea time. We got a series of great pictures with her big smile. You know your child best and should consider the tea time if you think it fits her.
