Grand Floridian Stuffy??

Can i ask those of you that have stayed here or just visited for an afternoon,how did you find it here did you feel it was to sterile/stuffy or did you find it great for anyone including kids?.I would dearly love to stay here but am frightened of making a mistake ,i wouldn't want to be surrounded by a bunch of people that i felt inferior too...please advice

I've visited for an afternoon twice when I had a reservation for afternoon tea. It's my idea of heaven. I parked myself on a couch in the lobby people-watching and soaking in the ambiance. I saw all kinds of people, from families with young children to seniors to wedding parties dressed to the hilt. I was casually dressed and I never felt out of place. However, everyone was well behaved. Children weren't running wild and being loud. It's an elegant atmosphere but comfortable.

We've felt as comfortable at GF as any other WDW resort. It's definitely Grand, but not stuffy at all in this family's opinion.

Mrs. Moon, have you ever been? Even if you have, look what I found a few weeks ago ... go to google maps and put "grand floridian" in the search field. You'll see a thumbnail of the entrance. Click on it and you can click through to the lobby and tour the lobby with 360-degree views. Omg, heaven.

I agree with @dansdad - we've stayed at a lot of the World resorts, in addition to many vacations in Hawaii, I don't find the GF, the staff, nor the patrons stuffy.

I wouldn't describe it as stuffy, but maybe graceful and elegant? It's definitely easy, comfortable and child-friendly. I think if you want to stay there, you'll find something for everyone and absolutely worthwhile.

I have never stayed there myself but please don't ever think ANYONE is better than you are!

Not stuffy at all. Same families at the GF you see at every other Disney resort. If you seek stuffy, you can got to the Four Seasons and check out how amazingly in shape every mother is.

As others have said, the GF is a great resort! I am one who always felt it was a little "stuffy", but decided to give it a try. I have to say I was amazed at how much I loved it! In my experience, staying at a resort is totally different than just visiting. Since that first stay, I have stayed 2 more times and will definitely stay again as it's now one of my favorite resorts. The GF is just as kid friendly as any other resort, so I wouldn't worry about feeling out of place with kids. I say give it a try as I'm sure you'll have a great stay. Good luck!

I don't understand how being in shape equates to being stuffy? I'm a mom in very good shape and I've stayed at all levels of WDW resorts. I wouldn't consider myself stuff just because my BMI is low! I don't think all of the marathon runners are staying at Four Seasons either?

I've cracked jokes about it being "elitist". I do get the "stuffy" vibe, but that might be mostly in my head. It's just a bit more fancy that I like. Ok, a lot more fancy.

I think the reason why some find the GF 'stuffy' is because the design may appear a little too concocted with a disingenuous sophistication. My first reaction to the GF was very negative but I have gotten to like it more over time. The resort has long been controversial for this very reason.

we have our first stay at the GF this June and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!!

I thought some of the women working at RPC were a little stuffy (not friendly). This was a couple of years ago. But, I also believe you can find stuffy/arrogant people at every resort from value to deluxe. Would I stay there again? The answer is yes. I wouldn't let a few deter me from staying where I want. Now, if the whole resort was like that, it would be a different story.

We stayed at the GF on our last visit and absolutely loved it. We are relatively quiet (as quiet as a family with three children can be), and we loved how peaceful our building/room were. I definitely would not have gone walking around the grounds in pajamas, but I didn't find it stuffy at all. We barely used the pool etc because we were so busy in the parks, but every time I met someone there when the kids were playing, they were friendly. Very satisfied there. Trying the Poly this summer for a new experience.

We were just there for a week at Christmas. In 50 some trips was our first time to stay at this resort. Have loved V & A's and the other restaurants and, especially at Christmas, enjoyed the lobby, the music and atmosphere and we were sooo looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately, and we've become friendly with many CM's through the years so I don't think we're high maintenance guests, several (many) of the staff had arrogant attitudes and were quite unfriendly. We will frequent the hotel, but never stay there again.

I've never felt uncomfortable visiting or staying (one time) at GF.

And if by chance there are others there who feel superior to me, I don't really care. They are free to think whatever they wish about me.

I think it's a beautiful resort, and love just walking through it, and around it.

We've stayed here about 3 or so times, always with the grand kids. They were preschoolers the first few times & we all loved it! They loved dancing in the lobby especially. So it's very kid friendly & we never saw any snootiness, either from guests or CMs. Also, their quick service restaurant has more selections than any other resort. It was also here that one of the kids was pouty one early morning while waiting for the bus. One of the CMs spent about 5 minutes talking to her until he got her happy again. I think that was going over & above his job description & we certainly appreciated it!
