Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

How do non ginger resorts pay for their decorations?

Ak has a pretty awesome setup and tree. They don’t have a gingerbread bake sale to fund it

The other resorts aren’t selling the gingerbread products that are sold at the gingerbread house.

No way Disney wants to lose that revenue from the sales and it’s built specifically for that purchase.

It’s not done as just a decoration…it’s a mini pop up store…which is why all the other resorts with gingerbread structures are smaller and have much smaller sales counters.

The money it makes goes far beyond offsetting the holiday decorations….those are funded in the same way they are at other resorts.

It’s been a staple for 25 years at GF…hopefully Disney continues to value that location as much as some of us who stay there during the holidays do.

What amemities are you refering to? The entire Tranportation system is open to the public, the restaurants and shops (including the gingerbread cookie purchase line) are open to the public, and the pools are gated, requiring room key/magic band for entry. Just walking/standing in a lobby is not an amenity, but if you wish to consider it so, were you not also using that amenity...so how was it denied to you?

Even if that meant a dramatic reduction in holiday decorations?

By extension Should the lobby, excluding monorail access, be limited to guests staying in the main building? Why should club level guests be subjected to the "unwashed" DVC group?
Imagine if they started letting people into the club level just to look around so they could consider maybe staying club level in the future…all while bringing down the value provided to the club paying guests. 🤯

Imagine comparing an open lobby and a public train, to which every WDW ticket buyer has paid for access, to the club level of a resort ….… not like the undesirables are walking into your villas and grabbing a mickey bar out of the fridge …

You know that isn’t even close to the same as a hotel lobby, the walking paths to the resorts, dining locations and the monorail.

WDW has a lot of resorts people can choose…and I still contend that if you don’t want what GF will offer you during the holidays, then it’s not a good choice for vacation.

As I said, I advise others the same thing and some don’t care and choose GF and others do and make a different choice.

Isn't it built with gingerbread shingles? Covered in shellac to preserve it for the season.
It's a fabricated frame (not sure if it's wood or plastic) with gingerbread shingles glued onto it. You pulled an older comment that was part of a back and forth. We were discussing that the house isn't actually completely constructed from gingerbread (like the one Hansel and Gretel tried to eat, for example), and therefore underwhelming.

Please don't even joke about this! It makes me crazy enough when they give someone a free upgrade.

When I stayed at AKL a few years ago, they were really strict about letting any one through the guard gate for the hotels. You had to be staying there or have an existing reservation— otherwise, you had to turn around at the guard gate.

Would be nice if people could just freely come and go but I can see the need for some limits at some times.

No this would be awful. Imagine if anyone could pull into a resort and park. Sometimes it’s hard finding parking when the lot is full of guest cars

That is not to limit people going to the resort. That is to limit the number of people PARKING at the resort. You can still get to those resorts using Disney transportation.

Just as Walt envisioned 😊

Unless a room is not to someone's liking (like location/floor level/view, etc) no one is declining a free upgrade ;) you'd be a rare breed indeed if you actually do on the premise of "I don't need it, I booked what I paid for don't give me something better :snooty: "
