Travelling in March 2017 for 8 days. Have a 14 year old, 12 year old and 7 year old. We want to stay at either Polynesian or Grand Floridian. Help!! Which do we choose??

Clearly cost is not an issue, so what are you looking for? They're both pretty nice.

Pick the theme that appeals to you the most. For me and my family's that's clearly the Poly.

Also, if you don't plan to do signature dining a bunch - Poly wins on dining as well. Poly dining is a huge winner for my family compared to any other resort - from the Dole Whip counter to quick service to both great table service restaurants (Ohana and Kona).

I love the feel of Grand Floridian, but my kids might like Polynesian better. We've never stayed at either. Usually stay at Beach Club. Looking for something different, on the monorail. Poly looks dark to me. Just looking for opinions from those who may have stayed :)

Thanks for the reply! My husband is loving the idea of being so close to Ohana :)

I prefer Poly because
  • I like the theming better than GF
  • I can still walk to GF for restaurants like Citricos or Narcoosee's
  • I like being close to Trader Sam's
  • I like being able to walk to the TTC which means I can almost always avoid the resort monorail
  • I like the pool better than GF's
  • I get a silly plastic lei

Another good point made by @disBEAST above. Being able to walk to the TTC means you can be at Epcot very quickly. Walk over and grab the monorail. Much better than getting to Epcot from GF.

Haven't stayed at the Poly in quite a lot of long time, but I would always pick the GF as my favorite. Great location, beautiful lobby, amazing dining choices, excellent transportion, fabulous pools and nice big rooms. The CMs are very friendly and professional.

We have stayed at all 3 of the monorail resorts and the Poly is hands down our favorite. We love the theme, the grounds, the places to eat, and the rooms are so nice. We even liked it during major construction. The GF is our second fave. I travel with a teenager and she likes the Poly better as well.

I've stayed at the GF and at the CR. Of the two, I preferred the CR - though to be fair I am comparing the CR club level to the GF Sugar Loaf CL and the GF regular rooms. I had a great time at both resorts, but the CR had the edge due to convenience and also to the quality of the service I got there. My kids loved the two pools being so close to each other and being able to bounce back and forth between the main pool and the bulls eye pool. The GF pools weren't as exciting for them. I think if it were a couples only trip, my husband and I would enjoy the GF more than we did being there with the kids.

We are going to be staying at the Poly this time - I have always wanted to stay there but wanted to wait until the construction was all done. The resort is so beautiful and relaxing.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either GF or Poly, they are both fabulous.

If you don't care about having a couple super fancy signature restaurants, otherwise the amenities are pretty much the same. It's really just which theme you like better.

Wow, both are petty darn nice! If I was with my family, we would probably end up at the Poly. That is their favoite. I love the Grand, and woudl choose that resort.

Both are really lovely, but have different vibes. My DGD is 14, and she liked the Grand but given a choice, she chooses the Poly.

We have stayed at both. My wife and kids like the Poly. I however like the GF better. To my the Poly seems crowded. With all the resturants in one place the lobby is always packed. Also the hallway where the entrance to Trader SAMs is and Captain Cooks is really tight because of all the people waiting to get in to Trader Sams. Depending on where your room is you have to walk through hallway to get there from the lobby because They close off the patio at night for Trader Sams.

Our last stay there our room was close to the Luau and so you also had to deal with noise and all the people head to and from the Luau.

The Lobby in the GF seems to be not as crowded. It may just be that it is bigger I am not sure. Also there does not seem to be as many people there that are not staying at the resort. I think a lot of people go to the Poly because it is close to the TTC and hang out.

Do not get me wrong both are nice, this is just way I would choose the Grand.

So we have stayed at the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian...we to are planning on staying for 9 days in March 2017. We are choosing the poly simply bc we haven't stayed there yet. To me it does seem a little darker in the rooms, but we always end up dining a lot anyways at the poly, so that trumps the rooms lol. We love Kona. Its 1 of our fav table service places on property. I have 2 kids, a 2 year old and a 9 year old and they both loved the grand floridian. I think my older son just liked it bc it looked expensive LOL. I do think though that my kids will like Poly better bc the pool is more kid themed with the volcano slide. Cant wait for the summer to get here so I can start booking things!

Both the Poly and the GF are nice in different ways. The Poly has a relaxing island atmosphere while the Grand Floridian has an elegant, cheerful atmosphere. The Poly grounds have lots of lush foliage whereas the GF has beds of pretty flowers.

The Poly is close to the TTC which some people like because you can walk there and take the Epcot monorail directly to Epcot. The GF rooms almost all have balconies whereas the second storey rooms do not have balconies at the Poly. Rooms do feel brighter tab the GF, but are rich and do not feel overly dark at the Poly. Some prefer the fireworks view from the Poly.

Children enjoy both resorts. you can walk easily from one to the other to enjoy the amenities at both (except the pools).

I would pick which resort you and your family would like based on theme and pictures. Our family would pick GF over POLY.

I agree with everything here! We've stayed at both and while the Poly is our favorite overall, we also love the GF (which runs a very close second to the Poly for us). You can't go wrong with either one as both are amazing with different advantages :).

I personally love Gf but I also love Poly. My family would probably pick POLY. I think they just preferred the atmosphere there more. Think about what each resort has to offer amenity wise and what theme and atmosphere is more appealing to you. I think you will love whatever choice you make. Besides you could walk back and forth between each one and visit :dogdance:

Never underestimate the silly plastic lei. :rotfl: You used to get macadamia nuts as well! Can't eat the lei, but it's still fun.
