We got off the Dream last Friday and while driving back to the airport came to the conclusion that we really didn't HAVE to be home until Sunday. So, while DH drove, I called Disney to see if ANY rooms were available, not knowing it was Marathon weekend. With great luck, there was a room at the Floridian for both Friday and Saturday nights and it was lovely to be at one of our favorite resorts. Our room was terrific and we had absolutely no complaints. I was, however, a little taken aback by the condition of some of the public areas of the resort. Peeling paint in the bathrooms (on the stall doors) near Citricos, overflowing waste receptacles, stained carpet. Simply surprising and a little disconcerting. Perhaps the money charged for the teas, princess gatherings, and champagne evenings will go to the upkeep fund!

Yes, sadly, I believe that you are right. Upkeep has been declining in WDW parks and resorts, IMO.

The public washroom by 1900 Park Fare was disturbing when we were there in November....actually I entered and left again without availing of the facility. UGH!

That's too bad, you'd think they would give special attention to their flagship resort and ensure the upkeep is to standards. Perhaps if the "new" royals, William and Kate took little Georgie and Charlotte there they would spruce things up.

How do you like cruising on the dream vs staying at the Grand and enjoying Disneyworld? I have a hard time sacrificing a deluxe stay at the world for a few nights on a Disney cruise @polyqueen ?

I have been wondering the same thing. I keep meaning to go on a Disney cruise, but then end up in a WDW deluxe resort instead! LOL!

Maybe next year....

Isn't it rumored that GF is next to get refurbished? I don't really keep up with the resort schedules, so I may be wrong, but I've noticed the year before a refurb, the resort is always showing the wear and tear. We stay there for the first time in a few weeks - I'm hoping it's an amazing experience (it's my birthday present from my husband).

Have they replaced the cloth towels in the public restrooms of the Grand Floridian with paper towels as they have at the other deluxe resorts?

Wear and Tear is one thing, but general mess/dirty common areas are another. This type of thing is so sad, really. I can't think of an acceptable excuse for things like this. It's not even the fact that it's the Grand Floridian, it's the fact that this is becoming more common from what i've been reading. I tend to overlook things when i'm there because I'm just happy to be in Disney World, but really, some things are just unacceptable and sad.
