Grand Floridian Cafe Party of 7

So yesterday I tried to book at late breakfast for our group of 7 at the Grand Floridian Cafe but no matter how hard I tried, the largest grouping I could make was for 6. So I booked it and figured I’d call later in the day to add the 7th person. After waiting for 3 hours (a common occurrence for all of us these days), I asked to add the 7th person. I was told no reservations can be modified at this time and I would have to book a new reservation. She said she couldn’t get a group of 7 but if one person wants to sit by themselves, they could make a separate reservation in their name...now who is the lucky one to eat on vacation alone, lol! She asked about splitting up 5 and 2 (which would be fine) but then couldn’t do that either. My question is how can I go online and find all kinds of smaller groupings available with a variety of times around what we wanted but she could get 7 of us together? Is this common for this restaurant or did I waste 3 hours on someone who gave me completely bogus information? We ended up booking the 1 extra person separate and my husband said he will go sit by himself (which will be kinda funny ) but keeping our fingers crossed that when we get there, our family can sit together!

I am in CA and our restaurants will not book for more than 6 (it's a covid thing) so maybe Disney is doing that as well?

Don’t use mobile checkin for these ADRs - go to the CM a few minutes early, tell them you’re together, and ask to be seated as close together as possible. There’s a very good chance they’ll seat you together - I can’t promise it, of course, but that’s what happened with our party of 9 in December despite being split into parties of 6+3, 5+4, even 8+1.
