I'm looking for people who have eaten at both to tell me which one they prefer. We just can't decide.:confused3

We have eaten breakfast at both and dinner at Kona. I would choose Kona over the GF cafe. We just like the food and the menu better at Kona

I can only tell you that we just got back last week and we loved Kona. DH already asked me to make ADR's at Kona for our trip next year.:rotfl2:

We've only eaten at the GFC when it was the Cinderella character dinner, but we thought both restaurants had great food. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. If I could only do one, though, I'd do Kona, simply for the atmosphere. We really enjoyed listening to the guitar player and having a drink in the lounge while we waited for our table. The GFC is a pretty place, but it just can't compare to the atmosphere over at the Poly.

I've only been to Kona but given the choice I'd try the GFC instead.

While the Polynesian had great atmosphere, I actually found the restaurant to have little atmosphere at all. (There's a guitar player?) It just seems like a big open space set up almost cafeteria style. The food was okay. If we had to, we would probably go back but not with all the other options at WDW. We really enjoyed our drinks. I hear it has a really great breakfast, so maybe it depends which meal you go for.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents...

Thought I would add this would be for a late dinner reservation around 9:15. Is there a guitar player every night at Kona?

Kona was even good when we had to take it with us because or DS was having a melt down!!!

I've been to KC 10+ times and have never seen a guitar player. There is a guitar player out by the lounge by O'Hana but that isn't KC. I prefer Kona to GFC, but GFC is an excellent moderate priced sit down as well.

The guitar player was set up in the lounge area outside Ohana, where the seating is if you have a wait for a table. In the lounge itself was a little loud, but inside Kona, he was just loud enough to be a nice background.

I have no idea if he's there regularly or at what times. I just know that we really enjoyed our dinner there last month, and the music was one of the things that made it stand out.

Kona is my very favorite restaurant at DW, so it gets my vote - BUT, Grand Floridian Cafe is very good and is on our list for most trips. The "fish of the day" is always fresh and delicious, as are all the items we've ordered over the years. If you can do both then do, but if I had to choose just one it would be Kona!!! :goodvibes

I'll be the odd ball and say GF Cafe. :) I like the food at Kona (sicky wings...yum!) but not so much it's location/atmosphere. I was OK with it for breakfast and would probably be OK for lunch but not dinner. Reason being noise. I love the Poly loby when it's not busy but at night with traffic through the GCH, that waterfall and the chater from SO MANY people waiting around for seatings at Ohana and Kona and all that noise reverberating off the slate floors and such....  It makes me tense and almost claustrophobic feeling in a weird way. Sensory overload I guess. :confused3

We go to Kona about once every other trip but I usually schedule it for sometime when we are wanting to eat right at their first seating so it's limited waiting and fewer people waiting for tables.

The food is great at both though...you won't go wrong either way food wise.

We just got back today from a quick weekend, and had dinner at both, Grand Floridian Cafe on Saturday night and Kona Cafe on Sunday night. My husband and I both agreed Kona Cafe wins hands down. GF Cafe was ok, but nothing special. The food was just so-so (although the service was wonderful). The food at Kona was superb! And the service was excellent. Plus, we loved the ambience of Kona.

Kona's gets my vote, one word OUTSTANDING!

I think I have to give Kona another shot. I must have missed something. I had the peanut chicken on rice and it just wasn't anything better than a quick stir-fry I'd make at home. I started with the crab cakes and they weren't bad but I've had much better. Maybe next time I'll get the mahi mahi. My DH enjoyed that dish.

We will be having a meal at the Kona in August, so I am happy to hear all the positives:) Thanks
