Grand Floridian Cafe - is dinner "worth it?"

We are looking for somewhere to eat the evening we arrive at WDW. It's always special to be somewhere on the resort loop or along the boardwalk and we especially love the ambiance of the Grand Floridian. We currently have a reservation there for 7:40 which should be ideal to watch the fireworks from the marina after dinner. It seems like a good plan! However, how is the food? Any dishes to avoid? Any "highlights"?

Haven't done dinner there for a few years but had a dee-lish one when we last did.

The Heirloom Apple Salad is a longtime item and marvelous, IMO. That salad has a particularly pleasant balance of sweet, tart and savory.

The Lobster "Thermidor" Burger is okay but not nearly as good as the clawmeat topped burger they used to offer. The former one was spectacular--an intact piece of clawmeat. YUM! The current one is merely sauce with bits of lobster, more infamous Disney costcutting.

I think DH had the chicken which he said was nicely done. He requested the green beans I had with the salmon.

You never know how skilled a cook may be, but whoever cooked my salmon then got it spot on, a perfect med-rare.

We've generally found the food there quite acceptable and service very good. A cozy atmosphere for restoring spirits after travel as well as easing you into the Disney bubble.

We ate there in September 2019 and had a great meal. I had the steak and scallops and my wife had just the steak. Both we’re excellent.

The food is fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but if it's convenient for your evening plans, it's not a terrible choice. We ate there in October and the menu seemed quite sparse compared to how it used to be pre-covid. If you are looking for a good, casual restaurant on the monorail loop, Steakhouse 71 is the best in that area, IMHO.

We had a good lunch there but it was probably the slowest service we have ever had, anywhere.

We ate there for the first time in December. Food was nice enough. I had the chicken, but found the coating a bit odd after a while. I prefer Olivia's chicken dish at OKW.
Service was efficient and friendly though.

We've eaten at GFC on every Disney trip. I have never had any food there that was less than excellent. Steaks, pasta, shrimp and grits, desserts...all amazing! We have had both really wonderful and slightly sub-par servers.
