Grand Floridian Bathroom Grab Bars

I originally booked a regular Grand Floridian garden view room, but realized I will need a room with grab bars in the bathroom for a guest to get up and down by the toilet and to assist getting in and out of the shower. I recently stayed in a regular room at the Polynesian and it had no grab bars in the bathroom. Concerned, I looked to modify my reservation.

I spoke with a typical reservation CM on the phone and she insisted that I needed a wheelchair shower room that would require me upgrading to club level based on what was open. Thinking this may not be 100% accurate, I called a different number looking for the Grand Floridian directly, and was put in contact with accessibility special requests. This CM assured me the “Outer Bldg-Garden View. Florida special accessible room with option for hearing accessibility. 2 queen beds, 1 daybed” would have what I needed and the CM updated my reservation.

Looking under the reservation website, I see that specific room type I was put into, and it does not appear the image of the shower has a grab bar. However, the traditional garden view room I originally had appears that it does have a grab bar based on the online photo.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Grand Floridian rooms (regular or accessible) and if they had bathroom grab bars. I find it strange that a Grand Floridian standard room would have them when the Polynesian did not.

Those Florida Accessible rooms are kind of mysterious.

There are ADA definitions for accessible rooms.
One type is fully wheelchair accessible with raised seat toilet, grab bars by the toilet, a roll in shower with a seat and a sink that a guest can use from a wheelchair. There is a path wide enough for the guest to use a wheelchair to get from the room door to the bed and to the bathroom.
The other type has most of the same features to make it accessible, but has a tub with grab bars.

Florida has a 3rd type of accessible room, which has extra handrails near the toilet, but doesn't have a raised seat toilet or the other features.

The basic space in the room is very similar, just arranged a little differently. The bathroom in the roll in shower rooms is slightly bigger to make space for the roll in shower. They 'get' that space by making the bedroom area slightly smaller. So, if he doesn't need the roll in shower, that room would not be a good choice.

Thank you for thorough input!! :)

I finally made it through the madness of booking dining reservations for my stay this morning, and called to put a note requesting a bathroom with grab bars in addition to the Florida Accessible room. The bathroom types you described seem like they will be much better than a standard room for my guest.

I was actually very shocked when I arrived at the Polynesian and did not see any grab bars. I assumed Disney would have something that I commonly see in many hotels, but I guess not.
