Obviously, the Grand Floridian is gorgeous and is a luxury resort, but for those of you who stayed there, is it actually romantic? The pictures make the rooms look like an old grandma's sitting room....? Is it better in person? Did it feel stuffy to you? I'm debating whether to stay there or someplace else with a more romantic atmosphere...what are your opinions?

I think it is very romantic there.. I know what you mean about the rooms though, I love Victorian but the rooms are very very busy with all the patterns so I know what you mean about the grandma sitting room lol. I still think they are romantic though.

I also loved SSR..those rooms are gorgeous and I think they are very romantic as well!

We stayed at the POLY on our honeymoon and I found the rooms romantic as well. You feel like you are on an island when you are there, like a little escape. We loved it there. I think any room can be romantic if you make it though.

What she said! :goodvibes

I thought the rooms at the GF were a little precious, but Victorian is not really my bag. The Polynesian and Beach Club felt romantic to us, but I'll bet Wilderness Lodge is too. And while I didn't find Animal Kingdom Lodge's rooms to be romantic, I bet lots of people do - it's all personal taste I guess!

We stayed in a victorian place once, and we got the same feel...very old grandmas rocking chair" for us. I think its personal preference. We prefer like, log cabin or beachy as romantic, but some may think the opposite! We are staying in WL for our honeymoon for july and think the rooms are great for us! The jacuzzi adds a little extra too!

I think it is romantic but I don't think it is the most romantic. We stayed in the Royal Palm Club and we really loved it. I think the reason we loved it so much was that we could see the Wedding Pavilion from our room and since we were married there less than 2 weeks before it was very sentimental. We also had a deluxe room so it was very nice.

As far as romance, my vote goes for the Wilderness Lodge. It's a much more intimate resort with a wonderful fireplace in the lobby and just a more cozy atmosphere.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the deluxe resorts. It just depends on what you are looking for.

I thought the rooms were stuffy, but I do love the overall feel of the hotel. We did think the Poly was more romantic, and enjoyed staying there more.

That is good to know since that is where I will be!! :rotfl:

we stayed there for 1/2 our honeymoon. If we could do it again we wouldnt stay there. It was a stuffy atmosphere, though the rooms were pretty :)

Wow, I'm so glad that I asked this here. You guys have convinced me that I should look elsewhere for a romantic room. I'll check the Polynesian and Wilderness lodge, thank you!

i would have to agree w/ everyone. i think the GF is a beautiful resort but i also think that when i go in there it seems like no one wants to talk and have a convo w/ you where as you stay somwhere else you feel more at home and ppl are happier

Not sure if your heart is set on a Deluxe Resort, but we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside for part of our honeymoon and LOVED it.

I stayed at the Grand for the first time this past weekend and summarized it to my friend as "Grand on the outside but baby grand on the inside." :) (The rooms weren't stuffy, exactly, but they didn't feel all that spectacular for the room rate, y'know? Grounds are gorgeous though!)

We had the exact opposite experience - we talked to lots of people and thought the entire resort was very romantic. I think what it comes down to is if you get a stuffy vibe from it, it's not the resort for you. I would personally stay there on every trip if I could... my bank account is the only thing stopping me. :rotfl: The most fun we had was walking thru the GF lobby in wedding attire with our entire group of guests - we were definitely the main attraction for a while! :bride:

We stayed there for our wedding and loved it and I'm with disneyprincess, I would stay there every time if not for bank account issue :lmao: For me, any hotel is more than just the room, which I do love, the four post beds, the dormer windows, all the gingerbread, plus I love the grounds, the restaurants, and the tea. But I love the whole Victorian/Flagler in Early Florida thing. The Poly looks great and I love the grounds but I don't get a romantic vibe from it, I think since I live in FL and associate tropical with home....so its really about what vibe do you get?
