checkin in friday, and not sure what to expect! it looks fancy, but keep hearing people say it's like a regular Disney resort

It’s not a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, if that is your definition of fancy.

It’s a Disney resort. A beautiful one with great restaurants and quality amenities... two great pools, two great pool bars, a great kids splash area (if applicable to your needs), decent sized rooms, many with good views, nightly MK fireworks viewing, nightly Electrical Water Pageant viewing, a spa, a gorgeous lobby, etc.

I also didn’t really think much of GF prior to staying there, but it’s a very comfortable resort. It’s not nearly as stuffy as the image it tends to present.

I do think it’s important to not let reviews get too much in your head. All of the Deluxe resorts have various pros and cons, and the GF is no different.

Hope you enjoy your trip.

I second what dansdad posted. We would always visit GF to eat and walk around, and thought it was just not our style. UNTIL we were lucky enough to stay there and it won our family over and became our favorite resort. Unfortunately, we have only stayed there twice because of the $$$.

You’ll see happy families heading off for a Disney Day, you’ll see couples enjoying some time together.

Most dress casual and some dress a little better, either way all welcome, it’s a Disney resort!

My first stay was in 2005 and I have a trip in May there again with several in between.

Rooms are beautiful, grounds are lovely and it’s just a great location for MK!

Ride the boat, watch EWP, and spend some time at the resort, it’s so gorgeous!

I'm not a big fan of Victoriana, especially the overly fussy decor so I resisted staying here for years but DH convinced me to stay there a few years ago and we've been a few times since. It's not at all stuffy and is very lovely. I'm still not entirely keen on some of the decor, but they've toned down some of the fussiness over the years so I'm liking it better. We like staying in the outer buildings with lagoon view near the pier so that it's convenient to the boat over to MK. GF Cafe is nice for breakfast; simple menu, unpretentious, and delicious waffles. The pool tends to be relatively quiet and is large with a lovely hot tub.

It’s my favorite resort, so beautiful and relaxing. Nothing to worry about. Have a wonderful time!

The Grand is a lovely resort hotel with gorgeous grounds, amazing dining choices, beautiful pools, and stellar service. It is also a welcoming resort that is family friendly. We love it.

It really isn't that fancy. We love it. The convenience of the monorail and the dining options make for an awesome stay. I would say it's classy but not fancy. People who expect a Four Seasons may be underwhelmed. I don't feel like the Grand feels any stuffier than other Disney resorts, personally, and I've stayed at most of them.

The GF is amazing, you will love it! Have a great trip :wizard:.

It is both! We always thought it was too fancy/stuffy for us until our first stay. It was both awesome and very comfortable. It's fantastic and I think you're gonna love it!

Same here. Never had the desire to stay there, but once I did, I loved it! I found that actually staying at a resort vs just visiting gives a totally different view of the resort (at least it did for me) :).

I agree ;).

GF is my favorite resort on property (though Wilderness Lodge, Poly and Boardwalk Inn are not far behind :)). As other posters have said, GF is beautiful resort that has wonderful theming. You're going to have a great time. Enjoy your trip.

Its not but there are plenty of nouveau riche looking down there noses at me in my shorts and Mickey t-shirt :)

Definitely not enough tot ruin the experience though. We love GF.

I love the GF (although youngest did share with me that true Victorian theming would be a lot more ornate). I love that the building cluster around the lobby/pools and nothing in a long trek. We stayed at AKL last trip, and I felt like I was walking TO Africa every time I had to go to my room. I love all the dining options at GF, the pool areas, the beautifully manicured lawns...

It's not stuffy at all, and I feel like compared to the other resorts, it's more tranquil and relaxing. Great place to unwind at the afternoon break.

I love the Victorian design, it's gorgeous.

The entire resort is just beautiful. Make sure to spend enough time just to enjoy your resort.

I did not find it too stuffy or formal. I actually think the YC is more adultish.

I was worried that I would uncomfortable at GF and there was no worries. I was very comfortable and would recommend to anyone interested.

Yay. Hopefully you'll love the GF, my mother & I fell in love with the resort on our first stay shortly after the resort opened
Worrying about the GF being too stuffy is like worrying about interacting with royalty at CRT. “Victorian turn-of-the-century” is just another example of very well-done Disney theming.
LOL speaking of Royalty I was there a few years ago staying in RPC (RPC = Royal Palm Club Main Building Club Level for those that are new to the GF) and I saw this family with a few private dining servers and they were setting up in the lounge so I asked one of the CM's and she said Prince Edward and his family were guests at resort so it was probably for them. So that was my brush with The Royals
