Grand Cayman Turtle Farm

We bought our tickets when we got there. I didn't want to buy beforehand just in case the ship didn't stop for whatever reason.

We took the local bus. It was great. $2.50 USD per person each way.

We were the only ship in port that day and the port and the Turtle Centre was very quiet.

Hi did you buy tickets at the Farm or online beforehand? We are thinking of going solo as well and were wondering if we should buy tickets beforehand or at the gate. TYI!

We bought when we got there. There are different packages, one allows you access to see all of the turtles (and hold the ones in the turtle holding tanks or wade into the little wading tanks with the turtles in those) the other allows you into the turtle area, but also into their "water park" area where you can snorkel with turtles and there is an area with water slides and stuff. If you do the second option, be sure to take a bathing suit and towels.

Thinking about going to the Turtle Centre on our upcoming cruise. Does anyone have more up-to-date info? I am interested in taking the public bus to get a different experience as it sounds like relatively safe (doesn't hurt to save some money in doing so), but how reliable is the service? Especially on the trip back to port as I certainly don't want to be stranded and miss the ship. TIA.

LAX

We took the public bus both ways, in January, it was 8 dollars a person. We paid for all access at the check in counter. Spent around 3 hours there. Nice long river to see fish and turtles. Snorkel was free with the all access pass. Nice pool and small aviary, with small pools you could touch baby turtles. Pretty place.

Oh, US dollars are happily accepted by the public bus drivers. And when you buy stuff, they show the US dollar and Cayman dollar prices. We found the island the most expensive of the 4 we visited on our Western cruise. Pretty.

And the second picture, well sideways, is of the local parrot that the Turtle place is helping to repopulate, as loss of their habitat is growing on the island. Her name is Rosy, and she was hard to see in the green tree. Nice caretaker of the aviary told us much about the birds there.

Thanks. Was it US$8 round trip per person? I thought someone mentioned back in 2018 that it was $2-2.5 (not sure if it was USD, though) each way.

LAX

LAX, yes, it was per person, including kids, no discount for kids. Now there was 3 of us, so 24 dollars, the taxi wanted 42 dollars. And yes, US dollars. The two buses we took, were both were large buses, that we got on, around the Royal's port area, as I had reserved a private boat tour that left from Royal's dock, but rough seas cancelled that one, so we couldn't decide what to do, but we thought for 5 dollars a person, we'd go to the beach. But on the bus, we overheard people saying they were going to the Turtle Farm, so as the bus stopped at the beach, and a resort, most got off at the Turtle Farm, and he charged us 8 a person. It then went onto Hell. That driver said he'd be back in 20 minutes. Um, no, we wanted to spend hours. When we were ready, we did not see any bus come. The Center offered to call a taxi, but at 42 dollars, I thought well, lets wait. Within a few minutes, luckily, we saw a public bus come and discharged a big family. That bus driver was nice, and agreed to take us back to port, even though we found out, he was ending his day, so we got a private ride back.

On the one from port, it was packed, and to get the maximum people in, there were seats in the aisle, that folded down, to seat more people. And I will say, the bus and driver on the way back, was cleaner and nicer. I will say, all that we encountered were nice, and we felt safe doing it on our own.

We did the Captain Marvin's tour. $30 USD per person, including admission to the turtle center. However, you could maximize time at the turtle center attending on your own. I think we had about an hour at the center. We tendered at 9:45ish, arrived at Captain Marvin's at about 10:15. Hit a few souvenir shops and boarded the tour bus at 10:45. Back to the office by 1pm. Had lunch nearby at Rackam's, then tendered back. It worked well.
