Grand Cayman cruisers, what have you done that you loved, any free ideas for the island?

Ok, though it is not on the terms we were hoping for, my family and I are going to be returning next month to the Grand Caymans for about a week for more medical tourism. With this trip we will probably only use one day for touring on the island, other than being able to dip into the ocean outside our villa, Villas of the Gallon, which sits on the beach.

I thought about visiting Smith Cove to do some free snorkeling. Anyone done this here while on a Disney cruise? Advice, tips, ect? Any other excursions that you have taken at Grand Cayman you just loved while cruising? We did the segway, the dolphin swim, the submarine tour this past March. We are really looking into doing as much "free" as possible, or very affordable.

Smith Cove is very easy to do on your own. So is Starfish Point if you have your own transportation and are willing to drive.

I didn't even know about Smith Cove back in March, so since it is free, with the exception of paying to get there, I am sure we will look into it. But I have another question. I know if I am going to do something and go somewhere that the cruise ship passengers might do, to get there before they are let off of the ships. The Disney Fantasy starts letting passengers off at 10:30, right? Does anyone know any of the other times that passengers start tendering to the island from other ships? Thanks so much for your help.

you seldom need worry about cruise crowds at Smith's .... nor Sunset House / My Bar along the way.

Cruise folks find this WAY too far to travel - unless they've drunk the Rum Point Punch.

Oh really? How far is it from the cruise port? We are familiar with using the public transportation, did it several times to get to the Hard Rock and the shops, so I am assuming a trip to Smith Cove wouldn't be that much longer?

buses don't go to Smith's Cove ... that's the 'problem'

rum point is farther .. but much more advertised

you can walk or take a taxi .... from tender area about 1.5 miles

Ok, probably would take a taxi. But I tell you what, this past March, we walked all over that island for ten days. So we might walk from taking a bus from the tender area.

This sounds great. Is it an "easy" walk, not meaning the distance but by using sidewalks or trails and not having to walk next to busy roads?

last time I was there, there were still stretches without sidewalks

but usually there isn't that much traffic ... I've walked it MANY times day and night (Sunset House to/from downtown anyway).

just remember they drive 'on the other side'!

I'll be back in about 10 days ... maybe I'll get an update ...

Ah, yes, it will be important to remember that they drive on the "other" side.
