We are planning on doing 7 Mile Beach on our own when we cruise in April. Any suggestions on where we should go? I read somewhere that cruisers went to the Marriott Courtyard and used the beach there but said it was very crowded. We were looking for somewhere we would have access to bathroom facilities and a rental place for chairs, umbrellas or water sports. Wasn't sure what was still usable after Hurricane Ivan. Thanks.

When we were at Grand Cayman many years ago, the only access to 7-mile Beach was through one of the many Beachfront Hotels. I seem to remember they charged a fee, and then you could also use their facilities. We were there in January and did not feel it was that crowded. Things may have changed.

Which would be the best hotel to try? I was concerned about Ivan damage. Would taking the Rum Point beach break be a better idea?

As I mentioned I was there a long time ago way before the hurricane. I believe Disney has a shore excursion for the Beach. This is the route I would choose.

Yes, I know, but Disney's excursion was to Rum Point and it was for the entire day. I was looking to do 7 Mile because it was closer to the ship. We were hoping to do a half day and then go back to the ship and enjoy. Anyone ever done either 7 Mile or Rum Point? What is the difference?

We went to Grand Cayman this past December and went on our own to 7 mile beach. Our taxi guy told us about Sea Grape beach. It's a nice beach, not too crowded. It has free shower, and restrooms. I think there was a little restaurant too, but we didn't buy any food there. There was also a booth that rent beach chairs, seadoo and such. We had a little one with us so we just spent time in the shallow water and making sandcastles. The beach did not seem damaged by the hurricane at all.
