Thinking of taking the family to the Grand Canyon in June.

Can anyone give me some ideas on good places to stay? I'm looking at the Grand Hotel and El Tovar.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I think Bright Angel Lodge is okay, too. We ate lunch their and while the interior wasn't as spectacular as El Tovar, it didn't seem like a modern, pile of concrete blocks like some of the other hotels at the canyon.

I am not familiar with the Grand Hotel.

We've stayed at the El Tovar twice and loved it each time. The rooms aren't very big, but I really like the rustic feel of the place:)

If you are planning to go in June, you need to book your hotel ASAP--like today. Hotels in the Canyon fill very quickly and I'm pretty sure some may already be filled. We stayed at the Kachina Lodge and actually ended up having to rearrange our dates because there were only a couple of dates available at the canyon lodges. Besides El Tovar and the Grand Hotel (which I believe is on the north side of the canyon) the others are all pretty rustic. The view, however, is priceless.;)

We stayed at El Tovar in June 2005 and loved it! We enjoyed sitting on the porch bar waiting for the sun to set. Book it as soon as possible. (El Tovar is on the south rim)

We went in July 2004 and stayed at Kachina Lodge and LOVED it! But TimeforMe is right - you'd better try to book NOW!!!! I made our reservations in Sept/Oct for July, tried to get El Tovar but it was already full for our dates. Can't beat the Kachina, though (and the Thunderbird is basically Kachina's twin) - they're right on the edge of the Canyon, just like El Tovar. If you can afford (and they have rooms available), pay extra (I think it was $10 a night extra) for a canyon view. Nothing like waking up, opening your curtains and seeing the Grand Canyon right there! :thumbsup2

We stayed at the Yavapai East. It was the only option available and it turned out to be fine. We also stayed at Cameron Trading Post for one night which we also enjoyed. Great shopping and dining too. We also went to Bryce and Zion and stayed onsite.

I got most of my travel tips from reading the Fodors message boards. It takes alot of time but they have alot of valuable tips.
