We're going to the Grand Canyon this summer and staying at the Kachina Lodge. Looking at the website for accommodations at the Grand Canyon, the El Tovar hotel is the only one that specifically mentions air conditioning. Do any of you happen to know if the Kachina has air conditioning? Thanks!

I've never stayed at the Kachina. I think it might be worth a phone call to find out, although the nights are very cool at the Grand Canyon. You most likely wouldn't need air conditioning.

I loved staying at El Tovar :)

I don't think it is AC. We stayed in El Tovar, and it seems like the reservationist mentioned that the other properties did not have it. But check.....also not sure that traditional ammenities are provided like shampoo and lotion. Double check on that too.

We were there around the 4th of July and it was freezing at night....low 40's. During the day 70-80 or so on the rim.

My AAA book says it does not have A/C. We stayed in the Maswik lodge in one of the units that had been recently renovated so it had a ceiling fan, but no A/C. It is supposed to get cool at night, and we have friends who stayed there the year before without a problem, but they were having a heat wave while we were there! It was 100 degrees on the rim during the day and only went down to 85 at night. We got the last table fan, but we were very uncomfortable. Our unit was ground level and there was only a sliding screen door that wasn't secure so we couldn't leave it open. We stayed there for two nights, then ended up changing to a hotel just outside the park. It was the Grand Hotel, and it had an indoor pool. It was a big relief after the other place. If we go back we hope to book early enough to get the El Tovar.

Thinking more about this, maybe it has the shampoos, but no television. I'm so confused!

We also stayed at the El Tovar, in fact just last week:p I believe it's listed as the only full service hotel on the rim.

Thanks for the replies - I don't really care about shampoo and stuff, but at least now I can prepare my boys for no AC. I tried for the El Tovar when we made our reservations back in October, but it was already sold out for July. I'd heard that it gets cool at night, but I wasn't expecting 40 degrees on the 4th of July. Yikes!
