Grand Californian waitlist chances?

For the past 2 years I've been trying to book Grand Californian with no success. I'm at 7 months for the runDisney Tinkerbell race weekend and no availability again for 2017. Any one know the chances of waitlist? I've had pretty good luck waitlisting at WDW, but haven't try it for Disneyland. Not sure if I should waitlist or just convert to Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier again. I would really like to try Grand Californian, but I think if I convert and book the hotels, I can't revert if my waitlist comes through.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Anything COULD happen but it's really difficult to convey any sense of optimism under these circumstances. There are only 23 Studios and 23 1B villas. Special events like that drive up demand such that there usually aren't enough rooms to satisfy owners, much less dozens of others who try to secure a room at 7 months.

You are correct that once points are committed to a non-DVC destination, they cannot be changed to a DVC property. The Grand Cal does allows members to book hotel rooms (as opposed to villas) with points. They cost more than a comparable villa but if you really wanted to try GC and want to use points, that's an option.

Yes. I'd to single days on two separate waitlists. Then if they fill set up waitlists for another two days. Also, check the website periodically for any openings.

I've had good luck with 1 or 2 day WLs at VGC. But, I think something opening up during a run Disney event is really unlikely.

I can never get a studio but had luck w a 1 bedroom.

I've gotten all-but-one waitlist at the Grand Cal. We are most successful with 1BR units but just locked in an early Dec weekend in a Studio unit!
