Grand Californian vs Westin?

Thank you all so much for your responses, it's been super helpful. We don't like to leave the Disney bubble when we're in WDW & it doesn't sound like we'd really enjoy leaving the Disney bubble when in DLR so we've decided to stay on-site.

When I originally posted, the Disneyland Hotel wasn't available for booking but that has changed & we're booked in a 1-bedroom suite at DLH for our trip!

Thank you to those that suggested it. I'm a huge fan of vintage Disney, the Contemporary is my favorite WDW hotel, I love all things mid-century, so I'm super excited to stay there!

Honestly I still like Disneyland Hotel for the classic feel vs all others, Grand is nice but can feel a bit pretentious at times (just my opinion). Enjoy!!

I love DLH as well. It used to be my favorite, but I didn't care for it as much after the most recent remodel. They went to something that was supposed to be mid-century modern, I guess, but it lacks the charm it had before. I loved the statues in the entryway, the magical touches, the sliders that opened, the fairytale look and vintage patterns in the rooms. My kids loved that Tinkerbell and pixie dust was on the wallpaper at the top of the walls all around the room and that it would glow in the dark for a bit after you turned out the lights. It had a lighter, more "early Disneyland" feel to it. The new look is just not my cup of tea, but I still love the hotel, just not as much. What I prefer about the GCH is that it has a huge central lobby that is the hub of the hotel and a great place to hang out. DLH doesn't have a good lobby to hang out in. It's very small in comparison and isn't meant to bring people in. Each tower has its own tiny lobby but it's nothing like the GCH, with a huge multi-story-high space that includes a giant fireplace with rockers, bar/lounge, shops, and lots of comfortable furniture, plus a spot for kids to watch Disney cartoons. They do have great food/drink options!

We're planning our first Disneyland trip & I'm wondering if the GC is worth nearly double the price of the Westin? We're a family of 5 & would be booking 2 rooms, so the difference is quite a bit. The Westin looks really nice...maybe nicer even than the GC? But we want to be close. We only have 2 days, & quick entry into the parks is a must. For comparison, we normally stay at BLT when at WDW. Would the walk from the Westin be similar to the walk from BLT to MK?

When are you planning to go to Disneyland? If you are planning to go in November, you might want to google Dapper Days and read all about that. It is a great, family, fun time to go, and bring $$$. My daughters get quite a few items to add to their wardrobe/(lots of jewelry and clothes). It might help you decide to plan and book a room, etc. Well worth it for us. Makes the Grand a little bit more affordable. I have a bad hip, so we save and stay there. The walk back to the room from getting soaking wet on Grizzly Rapids is the best! What ever you decide, wishing you the best trip!
