I know which resort is better (obviously), but I've never been to either, and we'd like to splurge for a couple of nights and do the concierge level. There is a big difference in price. Anyone done both (or one or the other) and have any advice?

We have done both and enjoyed both equally. The bonus to Grand Californian is that the concierge lounge has a balcony (with tables and chairs) that you can see the fireworks from. They pipe in the music for the show, it is really nice. If they are doing fireworks while you are there it is a nice touch. Otherwise, I would say they are equally comperable as far as service and offerings. As you stated "obviously" GC is a nicer hotel (it's newer, it was built by Disney so it has those touches, etc) but PP is also nice. We have stayed at both with and without concierge and have never been disappointed. I think that you should look at the price difference and see what your budget will allow. If it is that much of a difference go for PP and have a great time. I don't think either will disappoint you.

We booked the Grand Californian .. and the balcony and fireworks show sound so cool. Since I've never been, is the fire works show you're referencing one they show at the California Adventure .. or Disneyland? I don't want to miss it, and with two little kids, I think that's the perfect way to watch (given the shows going on that night). We'll miss the crowds in the park. Thanks for the advice.

I've never been to Paradise Pier, but we were at GC a couple of weeks ago on Concierge level, and we loved it. Our room had a balcony, and we had a view of DCA. And from our balcony, we could also see the fireworks from Disneyland. I think it was 9:15 when it starts, if I'm not mistaken. I liked the turndown service they did at night, and they would even leave those Disney chocolate coins for my kids, and some kind of newsletter on what's going on the next day.

Also, the Concierge lounge was pretty well stocked the whole day when it came to drinks (Dasani water, coke and sprite, coffee, tea, hot cocoa). We never stopped by for breakfast, but I think they served continental. Then after that, they served little sandwiches and pastries. Then in the evening, they called it "Sweet Endings" where they'd serve milk and cookies, and more pastries. At the beginning of "Sweet Endings" (8 or 8:15pm, I can't remember), a storyteller would come by, and the kids can be in their pjs and they'd have some pillows and blankets on the floor.

I'm sure you'll also have a great time like we did! :thumbsup2
