Grand californian Villas

On the topic of renting points from a DVC member, can someone point me in the direction of a current rate chart for California villas. (I have had luck finding point charts for FL)

Jack as far as I know there isn't a discount on the villas for AP holders, but I am not positive. We are DVC owners at the Grand but I have not seen anything as far as discounts go. The rooms through the DVC program are pretty high in August when you typically go, infact that is the 2nd most expensive time to go. Assume points are equal to about $10.00 per point - a one bedroom is 460.00 per night on Sun-Thur and 800.00 on Fri and Sat, with a 2 bedroom costing 620.00 Sun-Thur and 1100.00 Fri and Sat. In the off season the cost is a little more than half of the August rate. If you ever want to splurge the DVC rooms are great, but I would suggest a 1 or 2 bedroom because those rooms really are different from a studio. The studio is almost exactly like the regular hotel rooms. IMO But what a great way to give the DVC rooms a try, especially if you have ever thought of buying into it.

Thanks for the info. My DGF got a work bonus and she wants to splurge(I do not see the point). The problem lies with renting points but really having no safety net. My vacation time is always up in the air until a month prior at best. Can only go in August. To old to buy into DVC to get my moneys worth,
Spoke with a ressie CM yesterday and the villas can be rented 60 days out if there are any vacancies??? I have ressie's for other places but it is her $$$ to spend and I want to make sure she is happy.

OH blackjackdelta I hope your not to old to buy into Disney because my husband and I just bought into it and we aren't far off from you and your GF (I think). ;) We are hoping to enjoy it for about 30 years or so with our children for now and in 10 or 20 years we will start taking grandkids, then when/if we get to old to go we will deed our points on to the kids, IF we decide we are to old. If I had some points left for this year I would gladly rent them, especially since we are like neighbors and all. Good luck and I hope you have a great stay whatever you choose.

Thanks for the kind offer for rental of your points. Where are you located? I am afraid you and hubby are much younger. I am a Vietnam vet, so that should tell you something about my age. Found out that a cash ressie for a 1 bedroom is $1010/night in August. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Looks like if DGF wants to stay there then I will have to rent points(pretty clueless about the process.

Have a great day,

Jack

:scared1::scared1::scared1: $1010/night! Wow, I was thinking it might be nice to reserve a villa but I had no idea it was that much!

I agree that the renting points thing is confusing. I was looking into for DBF and my WDW trip, but it was so confusing and seems so risky. Let me know if it works out for you!

$1010 a night? Yikes! You would definitely be better off renting at $10/point. In August 2010 the number of points required (for a 1 bedroom) is 46 Sunday through Thursday and 80 Fridays and Saturdays. Thus, Sunday through Thursday would be $460/night and the weekend would be $800/night. If you really don't want to buy into DVC you might want to see about renting points for Sunday through Thursday night and then just stay in the GC hotel room for the weekend. At this point anyone with points could make the ressie for you because you are arriving in 6 months -- so you don't have to find someone with VGC as their home resort. Let me just say that $460/night for a one bedroom with 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen (and possibly a park view) is an excellent deal for GC! Good luck! :goodvibes

Have you been to this site: http://www.dvcrequest.com/point_calculator.asp This guy takes DVC members points and rents it for them. If you put in your arrival and departure days it will show you how many DVC points you would need but if you mouse over them points it shows you how much $$$ he would want for that reservation. Weekends in august run > $1000/night for a 1br but weekdays are only around $500. Good luck with your trip!

I went to the Disney Vacation Club website to look at The Villas at the Grand Californian and the chat box popped up so I asked how much the studio would cost for a non-DVC member. This is what she said:

The studio rack rate runs from $460 per night up to$645 per night and that figure does not include taxes. I think that if you check with Disneyland.com you will be able to get further information.

Toooo much for us. But they do look lovely.

Blackjackdelta I am the one that spoke to you last year about going to Disney in August. We are North of you by about 2 hours but we have been doing crushing and major earth moving just outside of the tricities area for Easterday Ranches and the crushing is for the Heinen boys which is South of Connell. We use to stay at the Paradise Pier before we bought into the Villas and always loved it there, the rooms are a bit larger than the other Disney Hotels and yet are still cheap enough to afford connecting rooms. We stayed there two years ago and got our rooms for 189.00 per night for a park view, although it was in early December. They aren't as nice as the Grands but I wouldn't say they are that far off, just a different style, and you can still use the Grand entrance into California Adventures, and if you really love the Grand just visit the foyer in the evening before heading back to the Pier. Have fun what ever you choose.:thumbsup2

You're probably around my age...50+. We bought to take the grandkids and have some nice adults only trips too. Hopefully we'll have 20 or so years to enjoy it, then gift to kids or sell. My only dilemma is needing more points. 2 of our 3 kids have families of 5, so that's a 1 bedroom for them and a studio for us. Our daughter has 2 kids, so can do a studio, but that's still 2 studios. We're gifting my brother and sister in law, so that's a 1 BR (no way could I swing a 2 br and they're perfectly happy with a free room and sofa bed). And if I can manage to get all the kids to come at once ....:scared1::scared1:
..I need more points...

Actually I will be 64 in August. I do not look my age though. Been to DLR the last 10 years on by BD, except for one June trip. My DGF is 20 years younger and kids(4) range from 16 to 23 and all in college(Stanford, MIT, U of W, and WSU/CBC/running start.) My delimma now is renting points.

Have a great day,

Jack

My DH is also a Vietnam Vet, but a little younger than you. We bought DVC in 2005 and he continues to feel it is one the best things we ever did. We own at BWV and go for a 10+ day stay each year (with both stays within the same 12 month period so we can use an AP). We are staying on our points at GCV in June with friends. We usually stay in a studio for the 2 of us, so the 3 nights in a 2 BR at GCV is costing about what 10 nights does at BWV! Best of luck in your decision -- Suzanne

Last night I went to David's DVC Request site. The rate for the studio at The Villas was cheaper than a standard room at Disneyland Hotel! ($2,200 + taxes/fees for Disneyland Hotel versus $1,879 for studio at The Villas.) I thought "this is too good to be true!" And it was, kind of. I emailed David to find out if a studio is available the dates we want to go and there is no availability. He did email me back right away and was very helpful with my follow-up questions too.

BlackJack - He did say there is availability August 19 for 7 nights in a studio. (We wanted to stay 7 nights in June.)
I didn't ask about the 1 bedrooms because we don't need that much space and they're too expensive for us.

Does anyone know how the parking is handled for the Villas. Is there a fee, where is the lot located.

We are still working on renting points for a 1 bedroom, do not want to pay more than 10/point. I wish there was a site that had "everything you need to know", hate hacking around. We need the space, my two younger daughters did not like the double queen at the GCH last year, made too much noise sleeping.

Jack,
The parking is the same as for the regular rooms. You can use the complimentary parking across the street or valet park. Personally, I'd go for the complimentary.
