Hi we are staying at GCH at the end of April and I am hoping to get a room that is near the entrance that goes right into the park. Does anyone know how accomadating they are for this request. Also I have looked at the map and I was wondering if anyone knows if the standard rooms are down on that end and which ones should I ask for?

Thank you!:)

PS I know the answers are probably in the GCH superthread but that thing is looong!

Takes time to research, but I am sure someone will jump in.

Based on the maps (link on first page of the Superthread) found here:
Grand Californian Superthread Maps
You'd be looking at parking lot standard rooms from 101-133 odd numbers. Those are in the wing closest to the DTD exit which you would take to DL. The CA special entrance (there isn't a special direct entrance into DL) Is another story, and that's where you start getting into the "lost halls" and I'm not sure what you'd request for a CA entrance room.

What's the reason for the request? Everything is really close together so this shouldn't be much of a concern.

If you want to get to DL there's a little walk. The previous post tried to explain that there's a "secret" stairwell that gets you out of the hotel at the corner closest to the park. This is exit only, so to get back to your room you have to use the standard entrances.

The DCA entrance is near the restaurants and pool on the first level, so to get there from any rooms you'd have to walk down to the first floor and walk by the restaurants, so not really close to any specific room.

Actually, this is a smart request. You'll want one of the rooms in the wing that either looks over the pool or CA. There is another elevator bank that services this wing so the closer you are to that, the easier your walk. We stayed right next to the elevators and they take you down into a mini lobby that is right next door to Napa Rose, so just steps away from the CA entrance. You can use it in or out, which is nice!

On this map, you would want the wing that is on the bottom right or any of the rooms nearby. You can see the main elevators above the Great Hall (lobby), but also a smaller bank on the corner above the pool. Any of the rooms close to that smaller bank will get you quickly into CA:

Here is the same map from lobby level. You can see the entrance to CA as the light gray walkway between Napa Rose and White Water Snacks. As far as how likely you are to get your request, I don't know. I've gotten it the last couple of times but it isn't always that easy. It may also depend on which category of room you have booked. I had the premium view when I made my request and got it, although I asked for the highest floor and got the 4th floor (the lowest level of premium view--goes up to floor 6) both times.

Thank you soo much, this is the answer I was looking for!!:thumbsup2

Did you request that area? Should I call ahead?

I did request it, but I don't put much faith in those requests over the phone. The reservation people don't even work at the hotel and I usually get better luck with just asking when I'm there. They note the request on your reservation when you call but I don't think they pay too much attention to those notes at the hotel.

I was trying to help but you said standard rooms, not pool view or park view. Also, I wasn't sure if you understood that the park direct entrance was for CA park, not DL. As the two entrances are at different areas of the hotel, it would affect what you were requesting.

The standard rooms are at the front of the hotel. The rooms closest to the California Adventure entrance are Park/Pool/Courtyard views, but it is not unusual to get a view upgrade at registration (assuming the hotel is not fully booked).

Don't worry too much about the distance, the entire hotel is almost inside the park :goodvibes

Ok thank you. Do they offer the upgrade or should I ask?

Yes I only have a standard and didn't request a view. I appreciate everyone's help. ;)

There are still some rooms in that wing that are standard due to obstructed views. Not many, but some!

I hope the one room we were first given falls into that category. We have a theme park view room, but all we could see was trees. Went to ask to be moved to a new room, and it was a mess. Took awhile to get past them insisting that it did face the theme park, even if I couldn't see it through the trees. Very disappointed with the GCH that day and may stay off property next time.

I paid for theme park one time too and basically all we could see was trees.

I got a courtyard view for standard once. I just checked disneyland.com and was surprised to see how many categories there are now! And the prices!

9/22:

Standard $395 + tax
Woods/Garden/Courtyard +$30
Partial DD +$65
Deluxe (partial pool) + $65
Theme Park +$120
Resort/Pool +$120
Deluxe DD +$125
Concierge Standard +$290
Concierge Theme Park +$350

The reason I checked that date is I have a DVC studio arriving that date for 6 nights. So glad I have it. 22 points Saturday, 17 points weeknights.

This was our view from our last stay … Room 5341

That's crazy!! I guess they would likely call anything in that wing a view room now based on the above. I know the premium view rooms are floors 4-5-6, regardless of how obstructed. Obviously, the higher the floor, the better chance you will have to be able to see something besides trees. Ridiculous to charge $120 more per night for something you can't see, though! I was told at my last stay (Jan) by a CM that there are standard rooms in that wing, but I can't verify that that information is true. We had a premium view booked and had a pool view that time. We had a prem. view in Oct with a view almost identical to the one above, looking out at GRR (what you could see of it through the trees) from the 4th floor. I decided based on those stays that it was silly to book a premium view for that wing and next time I'd try standard so I did check with the desk to see if there were standard rooms in that wing and was told there were some. Well, maybe I'll find out on my next trip! I do love the location of that wing.

Just throwing a note in here, you can get a Senior Discount 30% on all rooms other than suites and DVC. Just have to ask for it.And over 60.
