DH and I are tossing around some ideas for summer 2004 and looked at the possibility of spending a week at the Grand Californian.

It has been over 20 years since I have been to Disneyland, but from what I have read and remember, DL does not offer the same variety as WDW. (such as 4 parks, water parks, DQ, etc)

Does anyone know what areas of interest are nearby? How far away is the beach, cities such as San Diego, San Fransisco, etc? Can we take some day trips? How many days should we plan for the parks? IS a week too long in that area?

It will be DH, myself, and our DSs ages then 15 and 16. I always try to pull in some educational stuff on our vacations as well!

I threw out lots of questions but thanks SO much for any information!

<font color=navy>Hi Karen,

There are a lot of things to do in and around the Disneyland Resort area. One of the nicest beaches in Southern California is just minutes away, and a better beach an hour & a half away. There are also other amusement parks, zoos, wild animal park, local mountains, museums, missions, etc., to visit while you are in Southern California, so there is a lot to keep you busy. You'd probably need two days in the Disneyland Park and one day @ California Adventure to get a good feel. The Grand Californian is a beautiful hotel, and you can pool hop over to the Neverland Pool at the Disneyland Hotel for your kids. They'd probably also like Citywalk over by Universal Studios Hollywood, too.

San Diego is about 1.5 hours away, San Francisco can be anywhere from 6-9 hours, depending on what freeway you take.

Mary Jo,

I didn't know GC guests could pool hop. I know that you can pool hop between PP and DH, but didn't know GC could do it.

Can DH guests use GC?

Julia

Julia,
We will be using our DVC points to stay at GC....that may be why Mary Jo mentioned the pool hopping.
