Grand Californian DVC opens when?

I haven't been to Disneyland in 20 years and my DH has never been there! Suddenly we find ourselves with a possible trip to California in August 2009. That made me think of Grand Californian as I believe it is similar in style to our beloved VWL. I never paid much attention to threads here about it because I knew we weren't buying there and weren't likely to travel there in the near future. I guess that has changed!

Anyone know if there will be DVC rooms open at the Grand Californian by August 2009? And when they can be reserved by DVC members?

Don't know about the dates, but having stayed there I can tell you it is a great resort with a style as rich in design concept and execution as WL or AKL.

Nothing official has been said yet. Word is its supposed to open in fall 09 so you probably won't get to stay in the villas in Aug, but you can certainly use points to stay in the regular hotel rooms. It is a gorgeous hotel, similar in execution to WL, but in the Craftsman style .

I was just at the resort and stayed at Paradise Pier...walking thru Grand California each day to resort guests only entrance to California Adventure.
I talked to construction workers at the site (they crossed the street at the same place I did to get to my hotel) and they were secretive but hinted that Disney wants to open before Christmas 2009...the workers are dubious of this goal.

As was mentioned you can use points to reserve rooms at any of the 3 hotels. Also there isn't a $95 fee and the 4 month rule doesn't apply.

Thanks, everyone! I won't worry about DVC villas being available by then and will likely just book a regular hotel room for August next year. I called MS and they said August is fairly open right now so I shouldn't have a problem.
