Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier-Why is Paradise Pier the cheapest?

The rooms may be nicer since they were recently renovated but the Disneyland Hotel has much nicer grounds and pool. It's location is better and it just has a more "Disney" feel about it.

PP is also the furthest away from DTD and the parks than DGC or DLH.

pp is the furthest away from the parks entrance. GC is closest and is also newer. It offers more convenience to access the parks and the rooms have a nice new look too. DH is the one we prefer though as it is the original and you can't beat that. It is still close to access the parks especially if you use the monorail.

Aside from the location (which is far superior for the GCH, and still nice for DLH being adjacent to DTD), GCH and DLH have a bit of a resort feel -- better lobbies, shops, more restaurants (especially when you factor in DTD being next door to GCH and DLH), nicer grounds, pools, etc. PPH, while nice, is not only a little out of the way, but is pretty much just a hotel IMO. But if you want a quieter hotel with the benefits of staying on Disney property (EE for example), PPH is still a good choice, especially with the resort view of DCA.

how do you use the monorail from dh? is there a station right inside the hotel that you can board onto? :flower:

No :( There used to be and it was just the coolest thing. Or so I thought when I was a kid.
The monorail entrance is in Downtown Disney. It's a very short walk from the DLH and I think maybe a bit farther from the GC.

thanx, pir8girl. so you can board that at downtown disney, and ride it back there when you're done w/the parks? that's cool. less walking! yay!! :flower:

The monorail station is in the exact same location as it was before DTD was built. They tore down the surrounding area and Monorail Cafe but did not move the station.

Right, but I remember riding it into the hotel. Alas, one must walk now :)

You may ride the monorail in and out of the park. However you can't ride it roundtrip just for fun. They are working on what was the submarine ride and will soon be a Nemo attraction and so you must get off the monorail and get back in line to go the other direction.

I really miss the people mover. It was great fun too.

PP rear exit across parking lot 1 road your at the corner of DLH 5 mins tops straight to DTD add 3 more mins to monorail add another 3.or 7 to gates

PP front exit 1/2 block walk cross street (5 lane) at the front of GCR 7 min with light.another 5 to 7 to walk through to CA.

Not that big of a deal with the walking we did PP in June and it was as a Value nice room good theaming and a pool.( best view of fireworks from pooldeck)

DLH rooms little older looking great theaming Mod at best

GCR great room great theaming Delux of the three.

But they really are just 5 mins apart depending on where you stay DLH has some rooms further from DTD then PP .

Monorail or walk not that big of a deal unless you want to start or stop on the backside of park.

Just because it is the cheapest, doesn't mean it is a lesser place to stay. We stayed here 3 weeks ago. I did not find the walk to be that bad. You can get to DTD and CA by going over to GCH. At the most it took us 15 mins. to get to our destinations. We loved our room. It was a little bigger than a regular hotel room. We ventured over to DLH and it was nice, but DS 7 seemed to enjoy PPH. I am a true believer that you are your destiny to your own happiness. Before we went, I had read several reviews against this hotel. I was a little nervous that we had made a wrong choice. That being said, I can tell you we did not and I plan to stay at this resort the next time I go to DL.

Paradise Pier is a very nice hotel. I do not think either the DLH or PP can be classified as "moderates". I love the WDW moderates, but with their dining options, exterior hallways and motel feel, they are not as nice as the DLH or PP. I think one of the reasons PP is cheapest is pure marketing strategy on Disney's park. They have three products to offer, they want those rooms sold, so they offer different price levels to give the feel that there is something for everyone. Somebody who is price conscious will see how much cheaper PP is and think, what a great deal, I'll stay there. It is interesting to note that as far as DVC point values for 2007, PP is actually more expensive (by one point per night)than the Disneyland Hotel, with GCH being the most points per night.

I loved that too as a kid! I don't remember much about the hotel part of our stays back then, but I do remember walking out of the elevator to the monorail!

I'm sure the walk was farther than I remember(since it sounds like from another post the monorail never actually went through the hotel), but.....

I have heard that California Adventure is connected to gch how far away is DL? Is California Adventure and DL connected?

The parks aren't connected, but its only about 200 yards from the DCA main gate to the DL gates.

As above stated about 200 yards .

What we did a lot was cut through CA / GCH to go between DL and PP during the day for a break .It's all not as far as walking arourd MK at WDW.

WE really like the entire feel of PP and had no complaints at all .CM's were all great our entire stay.

We even spent 1 night in SD and they left us another Towel animal after we left them a note that we would be gone for the night.

Sigh........I can picture it now...........sigh..........I loved the shops in front of the DH too..........gosh, such great memories. When I first went back with the Whole big change-a-roo., I was completely! thrown for a loop!

Me too! Before my first trip back since CA, I told my friend (who still lives in So. Cal) that we'd be staying at the DLH so we could ride the monorail and not have to park the car in the lot.
She laughed and laughed. I was so TOTALLY turned around at first. And very bummed that the monorail didn't stop in the lobby anymore :guilty:

We are taking our first trip to California. We have never been to disneyland and we are staying at Paradise Pier. From reading this thread it sounds like a nice resort.
