Grand Cali for D23

Hey guys!

We own at VWL, but are highly considering going to Cali next August for D23 to celebrate my 30ty birthday. I know the Villas at the Grand Californian are not huge in number. I was curious about people's thoughts on being able to book 7 months out for August of next year.

My recollection is that it was sold out during the D23 convention prior to the opening of the 7 month window. I'm not sure if any waitlists cleared.

We typically stay at the Park Sherton near the convention center for the Expo. -- Suzanne

I got Sunday to Wednesday nights last time before D23, 1 bedroom at 7 months. We moved to Paradise Pier for the next 3 nights. My friend just mentioned it to me last night, we are going to try it again.

I wasn't able to book at 7 months, and I don't hear a lot of success stories. That said, it's worth getting a backup and giving it a try.

I like to stay at the Anaheim Marriott (I could see the Expo lines from my hotel room window), and then transfer to Disneyland Hotel after the Expo.

I was able to get a wait listed studio in 2015 about 8 weeks out from D23. I think I was just lucky, but it doesn't hurt to try as long as you have a back-up plan.

One note - the D23 website in 2015 mentioned that there would be transportation available to the convention center. That never materialized. It's a manageable, but long walk, but since it was 100+ degrees that week, I ended up taking a cab to the convention center every morning and taking the Toy Story shuttle back.

It's July 14 to 16 in 2017. Once again, I got a 1 bedroom for Sunday to Wednesday, then moving to Paradise Pier for the weekend. Wait listed for studio.
