So the time is quickly approaching. My dd18 will be graduating High School in June, 2016. I have always dreamed of giving her a trip to Disney, leaving the day following graduation...but are you ready (Yes, I realize I may have to dis-own her).....She doesn't want to go to Disney!!!! Instead she wants to take a cruise. We took a Carnival cruise for her 18th bday last year and she enjoyed it.

Soo while I try to understand her reasoning of not wanting a Disney trip I am curious as to what, if anything, you are gifting your children as a graduation gift, especially trips.

thanks!

Not to flog a dead horse but I was given by one relative a mint set of silver proof rare coins. They're precious and have grown in value and hold sentimental value to me. They were also the reason I got into coin dealing recently (not that I would ever trade those coins!)

High School - Laptop for college
Undergrad - we purchased him a new mattress of his choice
Grad School - A engraved watch from his Alma Mater

1st one nothing because he wasn't able to walk with his class due to missing credits and had to finish with summer school.

2nd and 3rd party and computers.

College dinner out. It would have been more, but since he graduated at 5 years due to poor choices, I felt we had spent enough already. 1st one is a jr in college because he joined the army before he went to college and #3 is a sophomore on track to graduate on time with honors, so who knows what we will do for the last two.

Do you guys go to Disney as a vacation??
We go to Disney annually so for my kids, they didn't want a trip to the world for graduation either. LOL my kids wanted a car but that was soo not happening.
Cash and a party.
My youngest attends school out of state and had to be at school early to begin football practice so we gave him cash. truthfully getting him set up for college was a huge outlay of money so we really weren't feeling spending more on a trip. His major required him to have a MAC :crazy2: that damn thing was a couple of grand.

My oldest went to CC at first so he got cash and a party also.

We didn't give our child a graduation gift when she graduated from high school.

Planning to get DD a laptop and we are going to Universal (first trip). And paying her way on a weekend to NOLA with the other choir grads to see Wicked.

Both sons got a trip, luggage and some cash.

My DD graduated from HS last year. We gave her money to put towards a trip she took to Spain & Germany last summer. The money basically covered her airfare to/from Europe, airfare from Spain to Germany, and accommodations in Spain for 4 nights. She was traveling with a friend that has family in Germany so they stayed there for a week and half and didn't have to pay for lodging. She did use her own money for souvenirs, excursions, and food.

We go to Orlando almost annually, but haven't done Disney in about 4 years. She already has a car.

High school - a new computer for university
University - a car.

My parents took me out to dinner and gave me a lovely and modest/inexpensive necklace.

For college they took me out to dinner and gave no gift. They paid for most of my college and that was my present!!

What about a Disney cruise? My oldest is in 10th grade so no plans. I would guess it will be something like a laptop or new cell phone.

For DD's graduation last year, we would have been travelling in May anyway, likely a cruise, but booked a line she prefers and an itinerary she has been wanting to go on (Baltics)--so we did not really "give" her a cruise, but we made sure that the trip we would be taking at that time was more centered around her interests.

Her official graduation gift was a nice set of the Anne of Green Gables novels. I have a nice set of the Chronicles of Narnia that my mom gave me for high school graduation, which I treasure to this day, and DD is also a reader and knows and loves that my Narnia books have that connection--so I hunted down a very "Anne-like" set of the Anne books for her as a special gift she can always have.

We bought her a new laptop when we dropped her off at college, but that was not a gift; it was a required item to make it through school.

Before planning the trip I would also check with your grad about timing. I know neither my oldest or my youngest, who is graduating this year also, would want to be traveling immediately post graduation and miss all of the parties. Matter of fact, within the past week DD has already received two invitations.
