I am taking my daughter out of school next week for a week at Disney and she is now starting to panic about missing school. Have any of you had any trouble after missing school to go on a trip?

I usually just ask the teachers for the work, and do it on the plane ride, or the car ride. I never have had trouble before.
If the teachers can give you the work, great.
But sometimes they can't. There were a few of my teachers that couldn't, and I just had to catch up as soon as I got back. It wasn't too bad, especially if your daughter can stay after school with teachers when she goes back. That always helps, because the teachers can go back and work one-on-one with you about the stuff you missed.

Hope this helps!

Personally, I have a big problem with skipping school. Most of my classes are semester blocked, so if I miss one class, I end up missing about 2 lessons. I also attend a very science-geared school that assigns many labs per course. If I miss a lab, there's a chance I might not be able to make it up.

It depends on what courses your daughter is taking to determine whether or not you should pull her out for a few days. However, if she's freaking out, there's probably a good reason behind it. (Honors classes, tests, etc.)

I'm only in 10th, but I hear 11th is THE most important year in high school. My classes, we do double the work because each class is 90 minutes. Missing classes for a week would bring me waaay down in my school work, no matter if I do work on vacation or not.

I personally would be a little worried, but I would go no vacation anyways.
When we went last time my brother was in grade 11 and missed about.. 12, 14 days? And he was perfectly fine.

missing a week of eleventh grade, if your daughters school is anything like mine, is a fate worse than death. she will be incredibly far behind.

but if she can keep up with the work, go for it.

I'd be scared, I'm in 10th and I already have an assignment or two in each class a day.
It won't be bad if you can get the assignments ahead of time, but I know some teachers don't know what they're doing until the day before or of.

Knowing me, I'd still go on the vacation though, and catch up as well as I could when I got back.
It'd be one heck of a week though, I'd probably be working nonstop.
I don't think a week would be THAT bad, but I think it just depends on your daughter.

I've been out of school for a couple days because of school activities and was pretty much fine.

With that said, good luck!

Have her get the work she'll be missing in advance, that'll really help her catch up when she's back.

I've missed plenty of school when I've gone to Disney, and I've always been able to catch up. It's going to be hard for her for the first couple of days back, but after that, she'll be fine.

Try and get the work in advance and see if she can take any tests/quizes before hand. I wouldn't be to worried about it. Then again I would email my teachers for my work and such everyday[which is an option as well]

Also I found 10th grade to be my hardest year personally. 10th=death. 11th wasn't too bad, and we got A LOT more freedom.

i'm in 11th grade and i have to admit that missing a whole week would be really bad for me.
but i take ITV classes where i am tought by a teachers from other schools, so i can't make up those hours.
and i also am taking college credit classes, and i can't miss those either.

but if she has easier classes and is good at making up work, she shouldn't have any problems.

I couldn't stand missing a week.
I missed one day and had loads of homework to do last night.

I'm missing 2 weeks this year (as a senior) for trips to WDW and I missed a week all 3 previous years. I never had any problem making up work. All my teachers were cool about it and we scheduled time to make up tests and labs (science) if possible and if I couldn't do the actual lab, I did a reading project pertaining to the topic. I usually ask my teachers for whatever reading we're going to be doing ahead of time, or I give them my e-mail and they send me the day's assignments for me to do later.

I'm going into my 2nd year of university and trust me when I saw grade 11 is the PERFECT time to take her out of school! It's the last year you'll ever be able to go take time off school for a vacation.
Grade 12 is really vital to not miss much, and you'll never be able to take time off in college/university.

I wouldn't have had a huge problem taking time off in grade 11, just talk to her teachers, make sure she's not going to miss any REALLY important tests/assignments, and if she is find out how she can make them up.
It shouldn't be too hard for her to catch up.

And TRUST ME! She'll thank you, because a week away from HS life to be in DISNEY would've been a God send for me!!

I'm too lazy to find the nodding smiley, but you're right.
Grade 11 is the last time. It's the last time my family went, that's when my brother was in grade 11. He can't take time off, his spring break is in February and that's RRSP season so my mum can't take time off.
The end of his school year is always iffy, we never know when his exams will be scheduled...
And due to the fact that he might be working in parliament again this year, then he wouldn't be able to go until it went out of session.

Some people find time to manage after grade 11, but we just couldn't find a way to make it work. If I go again, it'll either be this year, or next year. If not, the most it could be is after grad.
And that's a long shot.

Thank-you for your opinions, we are leaving next Wednesday and we sent the letters telling all 4 teachers what we are doing and asking for any assignments they could give her, hopefully things will work out.

Really? See I thought 11th was way harder and more stressful. I was worried about grades for college and all that.
Senior year was obviously not a cake walk but after applications were sent out I found it much less stressful and I would've preferred a vacation senior year vs. junior.

I went on a disney cruise the week before my midyear exams. I didn't miss assignments but I did miss review which sucked big time.
