Grad Night & Disney Ruin Magic Kingdom Stay

As far as the crowd levels for Gay Days. I was At Pop last June and we did receive an under the door letter stating that although it is not a Disney sponsored event the following day was Gay Day at the MK and we should expect it to be very crowded and they suggested another park as a quieter alternative.
There is no way they can warn every guest at every resort of activities planned that might impact their stay at the time of reservations being made.Perhaps a polite suggestion to check their website for special events would cover some issues, although not all.

I think when one travels, you have to expect unplanned noise, etc. Be it Grad Nights, conventions, or families with small children who get up early when I want to sleep late.

In taking a vacation, if total peace and quiet is a must then a different destination would be the ticket.

I agree in doing advance research and never feel that it is Disney's place to inform me of everything that is going on.

If the noise bothered me I would ask to move. If Disney refused, unless they were sold out, then compensation might be appropriate. If moving was not done due to the fact that the OP did not want to, then end of discussion and end of compensation.

As usual, I'm in agreement with Sammie I remember going to a convention once where I was supposed to speak before an entire auditorium of people, and staying in a connecting room with very loud people on the other side who were up all night. I bought earplugs for the second night and still had problems. Nothing they could do, hotel (booked for convention) was full. Was it fun going on no sleep and trying to keep up with my schedule? No, but when traveling to strange accomodations, not everything is within your control, and sometimes you lose sleep. I also had to drive to/from convention, and had to drive home quite a distance after two nights of very little sleep. Such is life.

I understand your complaints and sympathize with your experience, but if it were me, I'd ask to be moved the next day (we switch resorts all the time, and don't find it too difficult--and I am a parent of a small child, too) and if I didn't want to move, I'd ask for the specifics of the event and buy earplugs. Disney is a wonderful vacation destination in any case. You could look at the bright side. Many families can't afford an MK view at the CR at all. A couple of nights of loud music isn't anything life threatening. It's a nuisance, nothing more.

It is so easy to complain. It is something that comes natural to alot of people. Instead of focussing on the good things in life there is a tendency to only see the things that do not agree with you. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. You have to enjoy life instead of dreading life. Things could allways be worse, and when they are bad thing thing that they will soon be better.

Something nobody seems to have touched on:

Does the music need to be that freakin' loud?!? If it's so loud that it's disruptive inside a closed building at a signficant distance, is it ear-safe where the audience is? I don't think I've been to a concert that hasn't been too loud -- in terms of both hearing safety and sound quality.

I think it's also interesting to consider what the situation would be if the MK and the hotel WERE seperate companies. It sure sounds like the management of the hotel would have a valid noise complaint against the theme park!

I totally agree. I think 4:00am is ridiculous for loud music. Would you put up with that in your neighborhood? I think Disney is really inconsiderate to their hotel guests to allow this to go on until 4:00am. Midnight should be the cutoff for the loud music, even that's pushing it. Turn it down after that. When doing trip planning, you would not expect this from the Magic Kingdom and Grad Night is not even on their list of events because it's not a public event.

If you were staying at SSR, you would know your resort is across the lake from Pleasure Island and might take loud music into consideration. But at the Contemporary?

That's assuming you chose to believe OP. He said the fireworks woke them up and they're not as loud as a thunderstorm. The midnight fireworks wasn't Wishes but was an abbreviated show. He said the bands were so loud you could hear and feel the bass even when wearing ear plugs. The contemporary is a reasonably sound proof building. He paints this horrible picture yet wasn't willing to give up his MK view by asking to be moved. I asked him several times if he asked to be moved the next day. His silence speaks for itself.

We'd be reading a lot more posts if the noise was so bad that people were having trouble sleeping.

Okay, after reading all of this....c'mon guys--- 4 a.m.! Yes, I know that other people pay to have a good time at Grad Night, but 4 a.m.???

I don't think that a person (even on vacation) is unreasonable to expect some quiet or some sleep from 1 a.m. through 4 a.m., at the very least.

Why should a person have to move to have quiet from say, 1 or 2 a.m. until 6 a.m.? If you rent a resort with beds in it (what other kind is there?), isn't having those hours available for sleep a reasonable expectation (without having to research if sleep will be possible during those times) UNLESS you are told otherwise in advance?

For goodness sake, on some days, a park would open only 3 hours from the last hour of Grad Night.


Let them have fun, don't impose your sleep needs on others, but be reasonable--4 a.m.??

I have been reading the OPs opinion on this from 3 different sites now and each one gives a little more information.


He was offered a discount of 25% on one nights stay by a manager but that wasnt enough. He wasnts 100% refund of 2 nights stay.

This is smelling worse and worse to me.


He joined here and another website after his trip. Couldnt find this site for info about grad nights before but boy did he find 3 different sites sites within days of his return.

I also have a hard time believing the music coming all the way from MK was loud enough to be "thumping in your chest" at the Contemporary on the MK view side but somehow it wasn't loud enough to be heard just across the hall by someone staying on the Bay Lake side as another poster stated.

I certainly am not one that thinks Disney can do no wrong but I also believe some people are prone to hyperbole when they are dissatified with something and want to complain about it. I think this is a classic case.

I had written a draft that was going to be signed also by the other family. They chose to write their own letter because they were originally going to come the weekend before and wanted to express their dissatisfaction with the reservations folks for encouraging them to switch to this past weekend.

I saw what he's asking for in his letter....I actually read the whole thread unlike some people who have come in to bash him and can't get their facts straight....but isn't a common tactic in situations like this to ask for more than you ever expect to get? Maybe he would be happy with a simple letter of apology with a reassurance that they will try to do better at alerting their guests to events that they know are large, loud and planned well in advance. Even if he's not, is it really cool to rip people up like this around here?

I just think there is more to this story than meets the eye. He has told this story to 3 different forums and teh inofrmation is a little fdifferent each time. PLus it irks me that he thinks that it is good thing to call the cops so cavlierly.I doubt he would be happy with only an appology the Manager of he CR offered him 26% off one night stay and he declined because it wasnt enough.

Before i commented i read 2 of the three threads that I know of that he had made posts to and my recent comments have been made with the full power and knowledge of all the comments he has made to all 3 threads. The more he posts the more my suspitions are aroused.

I have pretty much read this whole post and had to add my 2 cents because I do see a pattern. For the most part anytime someone complains, warns, etc that Disney can do something better or that they had a bad experince at someones favorite resort the poster is basically accused to be out for Eisner's old stock options or must have a chacacter defiency. Some people are purely trying to help. I do enjoy the great tips I get from the forum. However some people need to settle down.....
