May 19, we are arriving in Florida for our Disney trip. That afternoon, we are thinking about going to the ocean (not sure what beach is best and the closest to Disney World). We have heard that their are "grab n go" options so maybe we could go to the park to get something to bring to the beach. Where are these places?
Thanks!

Grab & go options in the parks are limited. Some places you might try are the Main Street Bakery at MK or the Beastly Bazaar at AK to get the picnic sandwiches. But if you can get to a resort, the CS restaurants or food courts there have many more grab and go options. If you are driving, it's likely there will be several recommendations to stop at Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney and get sandwiches to go.

Thanks! So when you say a resort... we are staying at Pop Century. Will they have as good of options as a nicer resort? I imagine we could go to any of them, right?

You can most likely get what you want at Pop Century without having to go to a park.

Going into a park just to pick up snacks or a sandwich and then leaving to go to a beach would be a terrible waste of a park ticket - in other words, a horrible waste of money. Just go to the food court at your resort (Pop Century). They have all kinds of food that you could make into a picnic. And you wouldn't be wasting all that time that it would take to drive to another resort.

Ooooh good to know! Clearly this is our first trip here in AGES! Thanks :)

You do know that WDW is not terribly close to the beach, don't you? Are you thinking Atlantic or Gulf coast.
If I were going to go to the beach while in Florida, I definitely would spend a whole day, not an afternoon. I would get up early and drive in the morning, spend several hours at the beach and then drive back to WDW. I think your plan is flawed. You will just about get there and it will be time to head back. JMHO

My thoughts as well. Either the Atlantic or Gulf coast beaches are quite a drive. Leaving for the beach in the afternoon doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Maybe wait and do this on a non-park day in the middle of your trip. Lots of other things to do on an arrival day that don't involve hours driving through traffic.

Yes - we were under the impression that we could get to a beach in about an hour - is that about right?

Are you thinking Atlantic or Gulf coast?
We are not sure. What's the difference? Did I hear correctly that one is more blue water and the other not so much? What do you recommend?

So let's see - our flight gets in around noon-ish. I know it'll take some time to get to the hotel and get settled and all, but after we do, we thought we'd go and just spend the whole rest of the day at the beach. Not have to rush back to Disney for anything. No good?

We are in Florida May 19-27 but we have reservations and plans on all of the middle days. Nothing on the 27th but that's go home day.

I really do appreciate the feedback - I want to make the trip perfect and to be very efficient with our time and all! Keep the suggestions coming!

I think you should grab something on the way to the beach. You will likely find some tastier and cost effective options outside of the parks, and it might add to the adventure as well!!:goodvibes
