How was the lurking? (and how are you and the family?)

Schools out, Soccer is done. Got up to Yellowstone once so far, it only snowed a little but the weather has been nice this week.

We have another 2 - 3 weeks of school left. And then its winter hols for 3 weeks.

Nice to have you back on the boards.

I work part-time; and DH works from home. So it really is 6 effective days that we have to deal with.
  • We've booked him into a 1 day science program for one of those days.
  • There usually is a karate camp that runs for about 3 or 4 half days; so if we book him in, DH or I will drop off/pick up as appropriate.
  • He could stay home for a couple of days.
  • Depending on whether the cousins are around, they normally head round to my parents on Tuesdays. DS likes to go there when the cousins are at my parents to play.

The Open Range Zoo is having late nights during the winter school hols. They encourage families to go after 5 pm and check out the african animals and close at 8 pm. Kids under 15 are free.

The Melbourne Museum is showing the Wonders of Ancient Mesopotamia. I'd like to take DH.

We had drinks with some of the other school parents last night. They were talking about organising a catch up at the local indoor pool and/or going 10-pin bowling.

I suspect that we'll have enough to fill our days.

What about you? What is on your plans for the school hols?

The big thing is I'm going to coach the mid summer soccer program, which goes for I think 4 weeks. That twice a week in the evenings.
Probably some weekend camping.
Seeing Brave next week when it opens.
Lots of bike riding, he getting faster so close to a liesurely ride for me instead of a crawl.
Probably some hiking.
Signed him up for a reading program at the library which has several events and incetives to read over the Summer.
While I need to be home he can run in the yard. We are raising some tadpoles so he should have plenty of frogs to play with.

Tadpoles???? Now I'm envious. I'm doing the summer scavenger hunt on the photography board and tadpole is on the list. I'm not sure where I'm going to find any in Melbourne! :sad2:

Sounds like a good summer vacay. Hope the coaching job goes well.

Yes, we want to see Brave too.

There is a little one in the yard. Before the water table went up we found a bunch of places that frogs had laid eggs in it. So we put on blade of grass with eggs on them in an aquarium. From the aggitation of moving them they all hatched that evening and the last few the next day.

They may be out of season for you. Do you have frogs year round?

Yes we do. I might have to take a trip out to Wattle Park, which is about 5 -10 km away from me. They have 3 species of frogs that live there. I've heard them...just never seen any tadpoles.

It's suppose to be a hot one today 104, way to hot for me. We have a Father's Day get together with our DS, DDIL and DGS this afternoon.

DH has almost finished the painting in the kitchen. We're still making progress.

Tadpoles bring back memories. We used to fish them out of the creek when I was a kid. It was fun to watch them turn into little frogs. We fed them raw hamburger on a broom tyne.

How big were these tadpoles/frogs? I'm feeding mine crushed/dried, boiled leaf lettuce.

Heat is one thing I desest about Summer. I hope you are dealing with it well.

Happy Father's Day to those celebrating!

We don't celebrate FD until September.

We don't until Sunday so we have some hours to go.

They were about an inch to two inches long. Some grew up to be pretty big, but the pieces of hamburger we'd feed them were the equivalent to small flies, a little bigger than fruit flies, but not horseflies. Hence the use of straw from the broom. We would wave it around in their faces and they would gooble them up.

That makes sense. Every now and then during the night I will see some sizable toads. These tadpoles become very small frogs.

No kidding Jo that today was really hot and I am still hot right now.

Try to stay cool Bret, it's still hot outside at our place and our AC is running like crazy. By the way I'm Angela, Jo been quiet for the last couple of weeks.

Abby had her final beginner puppy class tonight and passed with flying colors. Her training is coming along nicely.

Sorry about that Angela. Maybe the heat is just getting to me. I don't have my AC running since I have a two story house which is hard to get it cool.

No problem. It's days like this I'm happy to have a small single story house. I grew up in a two story house built in the late 1800s with no AC so I remember what that's like. Trying to sleep at night in the heat is the worst. Let's hope the Delta breeze picks up soon.

Our family is headed to the River Cats game tomorrow for Father's Day.
