We had hoped to book CL at the main building, but have ended up in SL. I am hoping to still get into the main building, but realize that may be a long shot. Meanwhile, would love to hear any comments/reviews about Sugar Loaf. I am wondering about view (we have requested Lagoon view...which I realize is more like Marina view)...specifically how well, if at all, can you see the castle from room? Proximity to monorail? :confused3

TIA! :earsgirl:

Afraid I will be disappointed w/ GF Sugar Loaf! Downgrade?

I don't know how to post a link, but this thread is on page 16...it should answer your question and someone even posted a link with pictures.

Incidentally, we downgraded to Lagoon View. We have stayed in RPC and Lagoon View and really liked Lagoon View better. JMHO

Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that there aren't any rooms in SL that were classified as lagoon view before it converted over to concierge. (Which is probably why WDW chose SL for the concierge building -- really beefed up the revenue on the all-garden-view building.) For that reason, you might want to clarify your request to say, "on the marina side," or something, since otherwise it might just get ignored by a room assignor who looks at it and just thinks you're confused about the views available and doesn't understand you're equating the marina with lagoon. Better yet, ask for a castle view -- if such a thing exists maybe you'll get it that way. I haven't heard anyone report of actually having a castle view from SL, although theoretically, it seems as though the northeastern most corner on the top floors might have an obstructed view. If castle view is your top priority, you'll have a much better shot at it by simply reserving a non concierge lagoon view room, with an MK view request. That'd also save you some money, but of course you wouldn't get the concierge services and the MK view is not a guarantee.

Although I haven't actually seen the view from any of them, I would think the rooms on the small side, north end of SL would be the worst -- facing basically right into the back of Conch. Other than that, it should pretty much all be the same.

You're pretty close the main building, so monorail access is as good, if not closer, than any of the other 5 non-main buildings. It's a pretty compact resort, though, so you're not talking about a very long walk from anywhere.

Have fun!

Step H recently returned from a Sugar Loaf stay. She put up a beautiful webpage regarding it: click here.

As to views, there are no castle views. The views are either Marina or Garden (note: some Garden rooms will have a view of the quiet pool). Click here to see a map of the Grand Floridian. The map will show you the layout and views of the Sugar Loaf lodge building.

I hope this helped.

I must say I stayed in SugerLoaf 2 years ago and was somewhat disappointed. There is no liquor at all and the nightly offerings were very lacking... We just returned from the main building last month and it soooo much better......

I haven't stayed in SL Concierge but there are no castle views. You can request a view of the marina (which I didn't like as much as the view of the courtyard area, I stayed in Conch Key) or a view of the courtyard and quiet pool. Both are nice views though. :sunny:

The monorail is in the main building on the 2nd floor. It only takes a couple of minutes to walk there from SL.

SugarLoaf is now serving alcohol during the day and evening offerings. Basically, Sugarloaf is now the same as RPC when it comes to the food and beverage service.

SugarLoaf transitioned to full concierge sometime this summer. Food offerings are now available from 7am-10pm and they offer wine, beer and evening cordials.

SugarLoaf has a different feel than the main building and I always use the phrase "bed & breakfast" when I describe it. It's cozy, quiet and a nice refuge on a hot summer day. Everything is located in the same area (staff, food, tables), so it seems more personal and not quite as cool as the main building.

Unfortunately, you cannot see the castle from any of the marina facing rooms, but if you have something close to the main building end (6301-6315 or 6401-6415), you should be able to see the fireworks.

Thanks all so much for your comments and links! Puts me a bit more at ease, but still hoping for Main Building!!
