Help! I need a GPS system for my dad for Christmas. He has mentioned a Garmin. He doesn't know anything about them and neither do I. Which one do you guys like.? It needs to be simple and easy to use. Any help would be much appreciated.
Garmin Nuvi! I have one and it is sooo easy peasy!
My friend has a tom tom and they are over-rated. My mom is giving my brother one for Christmas and she is getting one with voice recognition and the lane change guidance. She loves mine.
Amazon was having a special yesterday on GPS systems. I also like the Garmin and if you order a model that ends in a "w" it is an extra wide screen. Also, you might want to consider getting one that talks....it announces where to turn and where to go so that you don't have to keep your eyes on the screen while driving. It is called "text to speech".
Heres the one I bought for my parents last year and for my in laws this year
Garmin all the way, I've had a couple different ones, but just make you you get text to speech I think it's called, where it actually the street names.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record... we OWN a 260w, and we are GIVING a 260w. Nuvi, for the win. The wide screen is nice, but the Text to Speech(spoken street names) is really one of the key items that makes navigation easier for our family when traveling in areas that we are not familiar with. Google maps were a huge leap forward... GPS is just SO much easier, still.
I got a Magellian for a few reasons, they have the AAA tourbooks pre-loaded and AAA updates are free for members. Also, you get a 2 year warranty if you are a AAA member.
