GPA question from a somewhat worried mom

Hi everyone.

My son was just accepted and he confirmed that he's attending for the Spring 2011 CP. He struggles with classes and while last semester his GPA was well above the minimum school requirement to attend the CP, he's not doing that well this semester. He's 21, and in his 4th year and struggling.
I am worried that this opportunity to attend the CP this Spring semester could possibly slip through his fingers, but I don't want to say that to him!
He's already taken all the classes for his major that the CP offers, so he won't be taking any while he there and the internship just counts as 1 credit to his school. If his GPA falls below the minimum is there still anyway for him to attend? I'm starting to freak out:scared1:, but don't want to mention it to him because he's so happy to have the chance to attend CP.

Any info you can give is greatly appreciated.

It is really up to the school. I know my GPA was very low the semester before my program but since my school doesn't care, I was able to attend. Will the school actually keep him from going? If so, try to find out who can pull the plug and talk to them about options. It may be that he can attend if he doesn't try to get credit for it (which is basically what I did since my school wouldn't keep me from participating, I just wouldn't get credit for it). He may be able to officially take a semester off as well and not be considered a students although this might mess with his financial aid.

I know I worried constantly until I got there that my school would pull the plug because no one would give me a straight answer. I would have been happy to know for sure either way.

Idk how close he is to letting his grades slip to far but it sounds like he needs to take responsibility for it and pay attention to this possible problem. If he gets it taken care of, I hope this semester away would help him to refocus and do better when he returns.

Thanks for your reply. To tell you the truth I'm afraid to ask the school! I asked them what the minimum GPA is, but don't want to ask what happens if he falls below. He is extremely responsible, in extra help, studies alot, etc, which is exactly why I don't want him to miss the opportunity. He'd be too hard on himself. It isn't his fault school comes so tough for him, he's a very responsible young man, with a great work ethic and history, so I'm hoping his chances won't be comprised. Thanks again.

I totally understand, I have never had trouble with school or anything like that until I started college and the CP really helped to give me a much needed break so that I could figure out what I wanted and how to get there.
