Government shutdown - flights?

Saw an interesting thing where delta mentioned helping out at TSA in non-sensitive positions (prob like yelling keep the shoes on or whatever). Wondering if bits of assistance like that are why tsa isn’t making too much in the way of headlines.
I've seen it in the news regarding security lines but mostly passenger reported so maybe not so widespread calls to attention on it. The big thing I did see was Delta One separate security at JFK and at least another location are temporarily unavailable due to staffing levels of TSA. As far as I know they are still putting those passengers who would qualify for Delta One's separate security in shorter security lines (pre-check maybe??) but that's made Delta very upset understandably so.

I'm supposed to fly to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on Wednesday for work-from O'Hare through Istanbul on Turkish. I'm a bit nervous-there's no way to have a backup plan to fly or drive, lol. I'm hopeful that maybe because it's a transcontinental trip it might not be as affected as some of the smaller trip (because it's a bigger plane so more passengers disrupted, plus some of those flights only run once a day so not easy to 'move' people. I mean, it's gonna be what it's gonna be, but as a seasoned traveler even this has me a bit on edge.

I think that two things are true regarding the differences. TSA in some locations is overstaffed. ATC was already understaffed, and is a much higher stress position. Some TSA understaffing on any given shift can mostly be ameliorated by taking more time, or limiting some programs like Delta One's special security line at JFK. There is nothing that can be done with ATC. Many of the country's largest airports are operating at max capacity, anything that brings down that capacity is just going to domino the rest of the day. I would have a very hard time going to either job right now, not knowing when I was going to finally get paid.

Then why did you ask the question? You specifically asked if it was flight delays or security line delays. PP's quote was about ground delay.
The image in the quoted post from Sparrow shows nothing but a big X and says X trackers and content blocked. The only thing visible is the actual comment about MCO being bad. Probably what prompted the question. I wanted to see what the images from han were all about and had to switch browsers. Without those images, the full context was completely lost.

Now, the next "it better end before....." I just can't imagine if it extends until Thanksgiving. So many people traveling, including us. So it would make the airports so chaotic.
Hopefully after mid-terms are over, but that may not resolve the ATC issue on day 1. I really do not know how soon this would resolve itself once the shutdown is open.

I would be lying if I said I was not concerned for my upcoming trip. I am trying not to overthink it.

This is it. I thought that was just a bad image. I had no idea there was context to it. I guess it was assumed I am stupid and cannot read. Reality, all I saw was 'rough at mco tonight'.

That's the context that was missing. You're not able to see the embedded tweet. The tweet was that there was a 161 minute average delay due to ground stop initiated by ATC.

Timing and location has much to do with getting through TSA. Our son and DIL flew from Houston to Boston last week and had about an hour delay leaving though they got through security okay. Coming from Boston last night, they went out on time and got in early. They ran into a family in the elevator in Houston who were going home after waiting four hours to go through security and missing their flight. I really think it depends on whether TSA employees call out. IMO getting on the first non-stop of the day is best no matter what.

why tsa isn’t making too much in the way of headlines.
TSA at IAH (Houston) is making big headlines in local press at least. No Pre-Check, only 2 TSA lines operating, the one that’s usually the main one in terminal C completely shut down, passengers told to check their luggage there and then walk or take subway to terminal E for TSA, lines there 4+ hours long today.

We’re very thankful that we flew out on our trip to Hawaii a week ago and returned this past weekend. No delays there either arriving or departing.

Sincere best wishes for everyone flying in the near future that this ends soon.

Ouch... Good shout out to keep an eye on local news for your local airport situation!
