So I get a very bad painful swollen ankle, at first I thought oh no, I might be showing a sign of rejection, etc. I called my transplant team yesterday to tell them, etc. My nurse informed me that most of the doc's were busy doing transplant's, and two of the doc's were getting ready to do a liver transplant. I told her that was fine as I was on my way to see my endo doc. I will have him look at it.

Well he does, and it looks like I have gout, ouch! Anyway he give's me an Rx for it, I get the meds and take it, now I'm not feeling well from the meds.... go figure! Looks like I will be calling the doc this morning for something new to take. Just what I need something else to go wrong... :sad2:

My DM has this in her knee. Its very painful. She got it in August, took her meds and it finally went away. She thought she was done with everything until about the week before Christmas. The whole knee swelled and has been very painful. The Dr. called in a prescription to my pharmacy (visiting from CO) but the nurse did relay that she would need to be on the medication for life. She's headed back to the dr. next week when she gets home. I feel so bad for her. She alternates between ice and heat and pain meds (besides the gout med).

 I understand how painful it can be. I hope you have some relief soon. Can they give you a pain med to help ease any of the pain?

DH has had this before, although not recently as far as we know. When he would have flareups the kids and I would want to move out! As I remember gout is a buildup of uric acid in the bloodstream and uric acid crystals build up in the joints. DH's doctor said sometimes the pain can be worse than a fracture!
If you are prone to this make sure you avoid peas! There are some other foods to avoid I think, but I know for sure peas are not allowed here.

My dad got this a few times...the most recent in May for our trip to Disney. OY!!! We had to push him around in a wheelchair because he couldn't walk.

Hope you feel better!!!

My father is diabetic and often has gout flareups in his feet/toes. He stopped eating a lot of 'typical' german foods years ago, but purine meats were once thought to contribute to gout flareups. (But he loves canned sardines and mackerel and herring which are also thought to contribute to flareups) He has trouble with the meds for it as well.....

BTW, I've never posted on one of your threads but followed your story closely.... and I made a wish for you at the wishing well at Disneyland Paris this fall :goodvibes

Hope that you feel better soon!

My father does. Don't eat green beans but do eat anything with cherries. Cherries make it go away for whatever reason.
