We got the information in the mail on SSR and we are ready to buy, but have a couple of questions.

Are we given a specific use year or do we get to choose what month we want it to be? Also can you borrow say half your points from next year and bank the rest?

We'll probably call tonight and put down the deposit.

Thanks for your help.

When we bought our first contract, we were given a contract year and not offered different ones to choose from. Made no difference to us. We go twice a year, so we make it work. We usually use up our year's points the year before making a reservation at 11 months. I think we will finally catch up next year.

You can bank points, but there are deadlines to do so based on the percentage of points you have.

You can bank one year or borrow from one year. That basically gives you three years of points to use every three years.

Greetings!

Glad to see you're on your way.

Use Year: We bought into SSR last fall and got February - didn't matter to us, as we're empty nesters with no good/bad months for travel. I've heard of new SSR buyers being able to request a UY from their guide - couldn't hurt to ask what you'd get by default and what's available.

You can borrow as many points as you've got from the next year, but you don't 'bank' the rest - you just leave them for next year. Oh, unless you are talking about an every.other.year approach: borrow half of 2005 for use in 2004, then bank the other half of 2005 for use in 2006 - you can do that, many do.

Best of luck, keep the questions coming.

We just joined 3 weeks ago and we ask for and recieved a UY that we requested. Hope this helps.

You choose when to bank, and must notify MS that you wish to do so within strict date guidelines or lose your points. However, you don't "choose" to borrow points and move them back a year in a block. Instead, when you're making a reservation and MS observes that you need some points to fill out its cost, they borrow exactly the points necessary to fill out the reservation from your next Use Year.

You do have to plan ahead and watch your calendar. But the rules, while strict, are really not difficult and you should have no problem using them to shape your travel very nicely. Welcome home!

When we joined in 1/2000 our guide asked us which month we would mostly be traveling- we told her April and she gave us a December use year thinking that would work the best for our trips and so far its been perfect.
