We sent our passports away for renewal exactly 4 weeks ago, and just got them back today! With all the horror stories I have heard on delays, I had already written off checking in for our cruise using passports and had gotten the birth certificates and drivers licenses all ready to go.

Our check-in is midnight tomorrow...one day to spare!

We did pay the expedited service and the prepaid express return shipping, so for anyone needing to renew, hopefully this is a sign that the extended waits are over.

Said it was a renewal right at the top.
And I had read it twice. in that case, I wonder how low new applicants are waiting. My renewals have typically been 2 weeks, unexpedited. Pre-pandemic.

Yes, it was a renewal.

I don't recall how long our renewals took last time. Everyone told me passports were taking up to 12+ weeks expedited so I really was not expecting this fast turn around.

My daughter applied beginning of May and hasn't received hers yet. I paid for expedited and got mine in just over 6 weeks

I got my renewal back in 6 weeks. What shocked me was that I got the approval email and the shipping email the same day, and had the passport in hand 2 days later.
My husband sent his in at the same time, it went into process 2 days before mine, and still hasn't been approved.

I mailed in our two passports and renewal apps not quite a month ago, and just today I see that one of the checks is being processed by my bank, which I guess is a positive sign. Hopefully, the second one will show up as pending soon.

I wonder why mine was processed so much faster. Did you send it in via regular mail, or Priority Express?

Did our renewals in January, took about 10 weeks.
Ten years ago when we did our originals it was less than a month.
Glad you got faster service.

Regular mail. No expedited processing. Just a normal renewal.

Sent in our renewal not expedited June 5 and got husband's back in about 8 weeks. I'm still waiting on mine. Just sent ours kids in with expedited and express return shipping hoping to speed their's along.

Mt son-in-law renewed his in May, expedited and got his back in 2 weeks. He needed it for his job.

the rest of the family is getting theirs done. 16 year old did hers, regular, renewal about 3 weeks ago, check not cashed yet. Working on miss 14 year old renewal (got to get those parents together, pita). Momma, needs to gets her renewal done. Add in new precheck for miss 14, and renewals precheck for mom & dad. Everything Came due at the same time. Their cruise is February so hopefully it all comes together. At least miss 14 will be an adult next time. She’s had her passport since she was 3. But that every 5 years is a pita for kids And having both parents each time.

Wow....I wish. DIL waiting for her renewal going on 3 1/2 months
DD's BF did expedited and it has been 6 weeks so far, also renewal

Wow, you are lucky! I have a friend who sent hers in for a name change (she got married last fall) and despite doing expedited, etc. it still took way longer than it should have. She was supposed to fly to Ireland last week and had to cancel the flight because she didn't get her passport back in time. :(

Did she mail it in last fall? 🤔

For those keeping score, my and my wife’s (non-expedited) renewals were recorded as received by the State Dept. pretty much one month on the dot from when I dropped them in normal first-class mail.

Fingers crossed that the renewal apps are accepted, and that it doesn’t take 12 weeks to find out either way. 🤞

Update.....DIL sent hers in end of April. Non expedited, took them 2 months to even start processing it.
She just got word it is mailed!! Priority and should be here in a couple of days.

DD's BF sent his in mid June, expedited and just got word it should arrive to him today!
Looks like things might be speeding up
