I was so excited when we got our tickets in the mail today (cards since we are not staying onsite). But the one designated for the 3-9 year old is Minnie Mouse. DS7 is not happy. Devastated really. So my question is, what all do we need to use the cards for? Admission and fp+ right? Anything else? Would it be a big deal if he used one of the adult cards as his?

1. That's it. If you want to, you can buy him a magic band and then he wouldn't need to use the card.
2. No, but an adult wouldn't be able to use the child's ticket, and that would end up being a very big deal.

Admission and FP+. An adult cannot use a child's ticket (in your case, your son's Minnie Mouse RFID card) and vice versa. Each adult needs to enter with an adult ticket, which will then be associated with their biometric fingerprint.

Each card will be connected to finger scan once you enter. It will cause problems if an adult is trying to use the child ticket.

Thanks for the answers. I realize he would have to use his actual card to get in the park. Mostly I was wondering if he could scan a different card at the fp+ part since he will probably want to scan his own card. Essentially all 4 cards would be scanned at the same time, so I thought maybe he could physically scan the Mickey card and his sister could scan his Minnie card? He is really upset about this and I am just trying to find a way to make him feel better. I understand this probably doesn't seem like a big deal to most people, but my son turns the littlest things into the biggest drama sometimes. Sorry if it's a dumb question. :(

Are you staying on site? Maybe get the magic band instead.

As long as you all have fastpasses for the same things, it should be fine. Alternatively, if you are planning to split up at some point and have different fastpasses, you could just make your son's FPs on your daughter's card and vice versa. That way they could just switch cards after entering the park. People talk about switching magic bands all the time without any issues. A card should be no different.

Tape your own icon to the front of the card. Cover up the Minnie Mouse. Let him customize it to his hearts content. The card will still work just fine.

Thank you! This is what I was hoping!

Personally, I would use it as a tool for him to learn both appreciation, and to not let the little things get to you. So many kids don't get a chance to go to Disney World at all (I first went when I was able to afford to go myself .. at age 20!) In the grand scheme of things, is having a ticket to Disney World with Minnie Mouse on it so bad? (Just my opinion :) )

Yeah, you could put stickers on it, couldn't you? Dan has a good idea! Or, my idea was that you could buy bands for the kids or everyone. They really aren't that expensive, like $12.95 I think(that would be wrong but it's close I think). They will last for a number of trips if you plan to go for some more trips. And, he could decorate his band any way he likes!

I understand where you are coming from with this comment. Believe me, I had much of the same thoughts myself. I did not go to Disney as a child either. If he had thrown a tantrum or something I would probably 100% agree. But instead, I found him in his room crying and refusing to tell me what was wrong. He wasn't mad. He was sad. I can't say I completely understand what goes through that boy's head. He is a good boy, and is normally very appreciative of what he has and is given. He is a little quirky and pretty sensitive. He gets bullied and made fun of a lot. Not everything is black and white. Not every child is exactly the same. Do I wish he wasn't so sensitive about weird things? Sure. But I don't find him to be misbehaved or ungrateful. He is actually very sweet and tries hard not to upset anyone. My daughter wanted the Minnie card anyways so I just posted this question to see if it would be a problem if they switched once inside the park. Not really that big of a deal or a parenting issue.

Of course not, especially for an older kid or adult, but sometimes things we think are insignificant are in fact very important to younger kids. If it really bothered my kid, I would fix it if I could.

OP, my DS is six, and while this likely wouldn't be a tipping point for him, he definitely has things that would be, and I totally get it. No reason he should have a reminder of something that makes him uncomfortable during his vacation. Can't see why they couldn't trade cards, and stickers are a great idea too.

Hopefully just a tough day and it hit him funny, but honestly, I don't think he will even touch/see his ticket when you are at the park. We just returned from a DL trip, and my kids never touched the tickets. I handled them at point of entry and pulled all of the fastpasses.

I would consider buying Magicbands for the kids/family, or look into the whole throw away room situation. The bands are awesome IMO. A way better momento!

Exactly what Robo said. That is much easier than taping something over it or paying for a Magic Band. My son would have reacted the same way. Get it changed and have a great trip.

I was thinking the same thing. Disney would have no problem making this boy's trip SO much happier by doing such a simple trade.

I feel for you. Sometimes children's brains are so complex and mysterious as they grow and develop. As a mother to twin girls with Aspergers who frequently struggle with their emotions, I totally understand and can only imagine how it breaks your heart to see him so upset. Like Robo said..it should be no problem whatsoever to get him a new card issued. They'll probably even let him pick out which one he wants. Assure him he will be able to trade in that Minnie card for a new one when you get there. :goodvibes I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

When you explain it that way, I completely see where you're coming from. I guess my opinion stems from the reaction of my nephew to things like this (he is not the same personality as you described your son to be, though ... quite the opposite) I apologize for assuming, and hope I didn't come across as if I were telling you how to parent. :)

No worries! I understood what you were saying and realized how my initial post could have been taken that way. No hard feelings! :)

Lots of great advice and suggestions here! I really appreciate all of your help! I am so glad I found these boards! You all have helped me so much already in planning our family's first trip to Disney!
