Got my last II trade into DVC - now questions

I am an owner at SSR and a non-DVC timeshare that I had been lucky to exchange to DVC resorts a few times thru II. When I saw that DVC was changing to RCI, I decided to try one last request for DVC thru II. I just got a call that I got a 1 bedroom at SSR in August. Now the question --

I made the request hoping to use it with my Girl Scout troop since we were planning Disney in 8/09 anyway.
I made the exchange for a 1 bedroom unit. We need 2 bedrooms (7 of us total). So, I need to reserve a studio at SSR. Will MS connect an II exchange reservation with a DVC points reservation so we end up with a 2 bedroom (presumably a 1 bed and studio lockoff)?

2nd question - Is a point transfer safer than renting points? I'd like the Girl Scout troop to pay for the points necessary for the studio (since I've already donated my "regular" timeshare, I'd rather not use my SSR points too). I will look at the transfer/rental page as well, but am a bit nervous since it isn't just me personally, but the Scout troop's money. I'm thinking a transfer so I can communicate with MS for any requests/issues up to trip time.

Anything else I haven't considered that I should?

It's not likely that DVC will link the two reservations together. You can request that they be nearby, but you do not have a 2BR reservation, only a 1BR and a Studio. It's worth a request, but don't expect the result you want.

With a point transfer, you would be able to control the use of those points and any reservation made using the points vs another member controlling the reservation with a rental.

This villa would be different inventory. Some member traded that SSR 1 bedroom villa for a stay at an II resort. So it wouldn't be available to you on points anyway. It was already booked on points. The original member just isn't staying there.

Correct. Those points were already used (exchanged out of DVC), that is the room is already available on II. You will not see a DVC room on II further out then when a member can reserve a room.

RCI will probalby work the same way, once the change takes place.

To the OP - Congratulations on your exchange.

Its doubtful that MS will link the rooms together, to form a two bedroom unit. But I would still ask. I have booked a studio and one bedroom at other timeshares, then had them put the units together. So it may be possible.

Transfers of points will give you the most control. Essentially once the transfer is complete, the points are your points. Just remember, you are only allowed one transfer a use year, and you can bank transfered points.

It's very fair for an owner at a given resort to trade to II and that an II member would get it. Given this is usage by the owner, it's more fair than allowing a non owner at that resort to reserve at 7 months out, effectively as a trade in to that resort.

no different than owners renting out points. I understand that it doesn't seem fair that non members get access that members don't, but to restrict that you'd have to not allow renting or timeshare trades. Both are nice perks so we live with the results.
